Annie nervously adjusted her pearl necklace, the smooth orbs cool against her racing pulse. Her black flapper dress swished around her knees as she stepped into the grand ballroom, the very air seemed to hum with anticipation and possibility. The room was elegant, with glittering chandeliers casting a warm glow over the wooden floor and the dancing couples below.

Around her, the jazz orchestra played a lively tune, the trumpet's bold notes mingling with the soft trill of a saxophone.
