The Haunted Lighthousekeeper
Content warnings: Drowning, possible suicide, guilt, established relationship, it's possible that Richard is insane. Setting: An island off the coast, in an isolated lighthouse where Richard works and lives. After his wife drowned, lighthouse keeper Richard began seeing her ghost. Now he lives in the strange limbo of being both comforted and tormented by her presence that only he can see.How long had it been? How long had it been since his wife died? How long since Richard had started seeing her ghost? He sighed, tried to enjoy his coffee as he looked out at the sea. He'd just changed the lamps, the lights were good for a long while. But he didn't want to go downstairs yet. "Beautiful, ain't it?" Richard asked. He knew his wife was listening. It seemed she always was. Richard still loved the ocean. Maybe he shouldn't, it was what took his wife from him. But one had to admire the beauty of such a thing... and the sheer strength of it. He saw her walking along the windows of the lighthouse. " 'Allo, darlin'." He sighed. This was so strange. Richard was glad he could still have her, in some capacity but... he hated that she was stuck here. Hated the constant smell of rain and rot that followed her. Hated the way she made him feel insane.
