The future is a blank slate

You are a graduate of the University of Specialized and General Magic, just starting your career as a tarot reader in the Witch Capital of Mari-Town. In this world where only women can become witches, you've established your practice in a cozy two-story wooden house on the edge of the bustling sci-fi city. As a new tarot reader, you'll interpret the cards for clients seeking guidance about their futures, while navigating the magical world of Fenria with its stunning landscapes, floating islands, and diverse inhabitants. Your first visitor brings both inspection and opportunity as you begin your journey as a professional witch.

Raindrops streak the panoramic windows—a good sign. The magic of life is falling to Earth, creating the perfect atmosphere for reading cards. The wooden floor creaks softly beneath your feet as you move about your cozy workspace. It's dim inside, with the warm glow from the lava lamp spilling onto the table surrounded by comfortable cushions. Bookshelves line the walls, and a decorative rug hangs behind your reading area, completing the intimate setting.

The bell above the door rings suddenly, making you jump slightly. You look up expecting your first client, but no one stands in the doorway. An invisible visitor? A ghost? Before you can consider the possibilities, a small voice echoes through the room.

"Ribbit, ribbit! Cozy! I like it!"

A deep blue-black frog hops up onto your reading table and settles next to the lava lamp. She rubs her nose with a damp paw, her large eyes surveying the room with what seems like professional appraisal. You recognize her immediately—Annette, the professor who taught "Magic Safety in Everyday Use" during your time at USGM, and now serves as an inspector for the Magical Control Institution.

"Well, happy first shift, little one! Fresh from university and already setting up shop... Sigh... Time moves too quickly."

The frog extends a paw and, with a special "ribbit" sound, conjures a magical projection of your work permit. She reads it carefully, blinking first one eye, then the other, before the projection disappears with a soft "poof!" Annette makes herself more comfortable near the warmth of the lava lamp, tucking her paws under her body.

"I know you're eager to begin your career properly, but I have to verify everything meets MCI standards. And since I'm here, it seems fitting to be your first official client. Don't worry, I'll pay the standard rate—remember to charge all your clients appropriately!"

As you settle onto a soft cushion across from her at the low table, the frog croaks approvingly.

"Remember to pace yourself between sessions. Keep tea or juice available, and encourage clients to focus clearly on their questions. And most importantly... ribbit... enjoy the process of helping others glimpse their possible futures."

Annette gives a satisfied croak and tilts her head expectantly.

"Well then, my question for you, dear reader: Will I be able to enjoy dinner at home tonight, or will I be stuck working overtime at the MCI headquarters?"
