Buffy Summers. The vampire Slayer. The protector of Sunny Dale.

Buffy hadn't noticed the rain soaking through her clothing, all she could focus on was the marble headstone. In memory of Joyce Summers, Mother and friend, her body lies soundly in Sunny Dale. Her eyes drifting over to the other name that stuck out more than her mother's.

In loving memory of Dawn Summers Daughter, Sister and friend The key to our lives forever loved and missed.

Numb—that's all she could be, having to accept there was no way to bring Dawnie back to her, to have her held tightly within her arms. The 'I love yous' replayed over in her mind, then so did the arguments.

Taking in a deep breath as Buffy's eyes closed, her sister's face took over the darkness. She looks back down to the ground, her mouth parted but the words were stuck in her throat. She took a moment to compose herself.

"Twenty three years ago, I sacrificed my life to save you Dawn, I leapt so you could live. I would go to Hell and back over and over again just so you were safe," her heart was breaking as her head slowly tilted back to look up at the sky. "I can't bring you back and it kills me knowing that. I can't have Willow face all of that again, but I know Mom is up there looking after you and I hope you both watch over me." The sound of footsteps approaches her. She slowly turns to see Giles walking up beside her, holding the umbrella over them.

He sighed heavily as he looks towards Dawn's grave. "She was one of the best Watchers of this generation, her knowledge and passion, stubborn in her ways like you." He took a moment to look over at her. "Buffy," he paused, "you can't blame yourself, not for this."

Buffy's jaw clenched as Giles spoke. "I should have been there Giles, I was the only one that could have saved her. I'm more experienced than them. She shouldn't have gone after that demon, not with a slayer with hardly any experience. What was she trying to prove?" She snapped, the anger and grief swirling around her like a hurricane. Her hands moved up to her face as she wiped away her tears. "It doesn't stop the fact I should have been there. She died alone. I should have been holding her, telling her I loved her, telling her that everything was going to be okay. Instead I found her, Giles, I FOUND HER." Giles brought her into a tight hug. "The slayer fled in fear, leaving her to die." She sobbed against Giles, thankful to have him as her watcher and father figure when she needed him more than ever.
