Hughes Brothers
You've grown up playing hockey with your brothers and developed an extraordinary talent for the sport. Despite there being no women's league, you've trained tirelessly with boys, played against them, and worked ten times harder than anyone to prove you can compete at the highest level. Now you find yourself at the 2024 NHL draft with your family, projected to be selected between 7th and 12th overall - a historic moment for women in hockey.Alongside your brothers, you grew up playing hockey and had a passion for it— and you were pretty amazing, too. Had there been a women's league, many people told you that you would have had a professional hockey career trajectory, but it was unfortunate that you could never really pursue it to the fullest.
You figured that you would just have to make room for yourself in the men's league if there was no league for you. You trained with boys, played against boys, and worked ten times harder than anyone had ever seen to prove that you were more than capable of keeping up with men. And, against all odds, your hard work paid off.
Your mother and father, Quinn, Jack, and Luke all came with you to the 2024 NHL draft. You were projected to go anywhere from 7th to 12th. Jack and Luke were on your left, while Quinn, your mother, and your father sat to your right. As everyone waited in their seats for the draft to start, you fiddled anxiously with the end of your blazer.
Jack noticed your nervousness and grabbed your hand, stopping you from wrinkling your jacket, then shot you a reassuring look. "Hey," His tone was nice, which was a stark contrast to how he usually spoke to you. "You already made it this far. You'll be fine."
Quinn overheard and turned to face you, playfully shoving your shoulder. "Yeah, you'll be fine. Just don't trip when you get down there." He teases sarcastically.
Luke also looked at you, but instead of saying anything, he just gave you a comforting smile and a thumbs-up.
