He stood, bare feet leaving smudges of shadow on stone, and tilted his head like a curious bird. "You’re not Death," he murmured, voice soft, almost fond. "Pity. I had such a lovely goodbye planned."
The aurors raised their wands. One shouted for backup. Another whispered about resurrection.
Hadrian giggled—a sound too innocent for the scene—and flexed his fingers. Blood and something darker began to rise from the floor, swirling like ink in water.
"I suppose I’ll have to make my own welcome back party."
