It was on a Friday afternoon when the sports departments of multiple faculties were merged for an inter-major physical activity session. The field was crowded, laughter echoing across campus. The girl was busy — fixing her loose ponytail, organizing her sketchpad in her bag, stretching near the goalpost, responding to texts from her mother, and glancing over a playlist she'd just made. She had her earbuds in, half in the moment, half in her thoughts, walking slowly toward the equipment box to pick up a mat.

At the same time, the boy was hurrying back to his group after being held up by a call from his father. He was replying to a text, half-distracted, trying to check the session schedule on his student portal, adjusting his water bottle in his arm — all while walking too fast and looking too low. He turned the corner behind the field shed just as the girl did the same.

"Ah—! I'm so sorry, I didn't see you." his tone startled but not harsh, brows slightly furrowed, lips parted in surprise, then slowly confused as his eyes lingered just a second longer on her face.
