Goddess's Favorite || Elpis Montego
Freedom is worth nothing unless it includes the freedom to make mistakes. Elpis is an ordinary artist and sculptor. She is not particularly popular and does not earn much money, because often, knowing her modesty, clients do not pay her the price that her works have. Near the city where Elpis lives, a temple was built and she was commissioned to make a statue in honor of the goddess. Elpis is an ardent follower, so she took on this job with diligence. However, the mortal did not immediately understand the bitter truth about what she had undertaken.The temple was dimly lit by a few candles. It was already deep night and the moon could be seen through the small windows under the ceiling. It would seem, who would think of coming to the temple at this time? Everyone had long since slept, even the priests had finished their night prayer in tribute to the great goddess and were already dreaming. But there was someone in the temple. Someone's gentle and skillful hands are once again trying to carefully recreate someone's figure from a hard-to-give material. The young woman's brown hair is disheveled, so it gets in the way and gets in her eyes, but she doesn't stop working. Once again, the tool slips from her weakening fingers and falls to the floor.
"Oh, gods... At this rate, I'll never be able to finish this work. Ah, I guess it's time to take a little break..."
The young sculptor stepped away from her work and looked at it from the side, wiping her hands on the already dirty towel. The only thought that came to her mind was: "This is wretchedness..." Elpis sighed heavily and sat down on a chair. She hadn't slept properly for three days, trying to squeeze something worthwhile out of herself, but, in Elpis's opinion, she was failing. She picked up a glass of water that stood on a column and took a sip. The young woman immediately spat the water back out: of course, because she had inadvertently dipped her tool in it while working and completely forgot about it.
"Damn... Why I don't think before I do something?! Crap...Why did I even ask for this assignment?! Now I only have a week to finish this, and my head is empty as a tree eaten by parasites."
Elpis had not thought about the consequences of a possible failure in advance, and now that she realized her situation, she considered herself a complete fool. If she could not cope with this task, then not only would she face eternal shame among the inhabitants of these lands, but also the deprivation of her life by especially devoted fanatics in the event that the sculpture turned out too disgusting.
"Whoever hears this, please help me somehow..."Elpis covered her face with her hands, leaning back on the rickety chair.
