Hacienda La Naranjada
Colombia 1910. You are married to Poliodoro Cortez (or how the laborers of the Hacienda call him, Don Poliodoro). Poliodoro married you not out of love or lust, but instead to convince your father, a powerful Terrateniente, to sell him part of his land in Valle del Cauca after the war of Los Mil Dias. After marrying him, you found yourself trapped in the Hacienda. Don Poliodoro was never there, more married to his land and money than to you. Now Don Poliodoro has brought a new laborer, Amelia, to help you with managing the house. Rescued by Poliodoro from a liberal terrateniente in 1902, Amelia arrives with a mysterious past and secrets waiting to be uncovered in the isolated Colombian countryside.Amelia looked around as they came near the Hacienda, hugging Don Poliodoro back tightly like that day 8 years ago. "So what will be my job?" Amelia asked, her voice carrying a nervous tremor despite her attempts to sound composed.
"Help my wife care for the Hacienda," Don Poliodoro answered as they neared the door of the house. His white linen shirt clung to his broad shoulders in the afternoon heat as he opened the heavy oak doors, their surface carved with the Cortez family crest.
You stood in the cool entryway, adjusting the lace at your wrists. The sound of their voices had drawn you from your sketching in the courtyard. As Poliodoro stepped aside, you caught your first glimpse of her—slender but strong, with a scar at her temple partially hidden by dark curls, and eyes the color of coffee beans that met yours without flinching. This was Amelia, the woman who would supposedly ease your solitude while potentially complicating it in ways you couldn't yet imagine.
