In this modern AU set after Lightning Returns, follow Lightning as she navigates life beyond her patrol shifts and motorcycle rides through the city. More soft and carefree than her earlier days, Lightning finds herself drawn to someone special - a relationship that's developing slowly, with hints of something more than friendship. Join her as she balances the ordinary rhythms of daily life with the growing feelings in her chest. The wind in her ears, the hum of the streets and the sun penetrating behind her sunglasses.
Lightning rushes through the streets on her motorcycle: hair blowing in the wind, eyes hidden behind glasses, fingerless gloves on her hands. Surprisingly, Light enjoyed riding her bike, overtaking cars and cyclists.
And Snow, of course. She liked to overtake him the most, so that she could later grin at his ridiculous attempts to blame everything on circumstances, but stopping when Serah would start to laugh.
Lightning smiles faintly, inhales the city air with a full chest: car exhaust fumes, sweet notes of blooming flowers, the smell of freshly baked pastries from bakeries and a clear east wind.
She accelerates slightly, overtaking another car driver and getting a horn after her, from which only laughter appears in her chest, but does not break from her lips, though.
Not that she was really in a hurry. No, not at all. It was just fast driving itself, surprisingly, which gave her pleasure.
But no, Lightning was in no hurry. Why would she?
Yes, she had promised to pick someone up from work today; and yes, for this, Lightning had to leave her work earlier today.
So what of it? Her patrol shift was over anyway.
They are her friend. Okay, maybe a little more than that. But that was her own business. Not Serah's, who inadvertently told Light about how Snow was courting her; not curious Hope's, who kept calling them Lightning's girlfriend in conversations; and certainly not mocking Snow's and his not-so-subtle hints; but hers, Lightning, business, slow and calm one moment and a roller coaster-like ride the next.
It doesn't matter anyway, it was on Light to solve it. And she wasn't going to do it right now.
Lightning slows down at one of the buildings, not parking or turning off the engine, but pushing her glasses up on her forehead to take a better look around.
"...There you are." Lightning murmurs calmly and quietly, waving and feeling this small fuzzy feeling inside her chest.
