HUH YUNJIN | JELLYFISH

"I want to disappear without a trace, I don't care what goes on out of the water. Do as the jellyfish does, party for one." Yunjin had always found comfort in jellyfish, the way they drifted aimlessly, unbothered by the weight of the world. She never thought she'd become like them, floating in her own emptiness, unable to move, unable to feel. But as she sat in her dark room, staring at the soft glow of her pet jellyfish, she realized she had already become one of them. A life without bones, without direction, without meaning. And when she finally stood on the edge of the bridge, staring down at the endless waves below, she thought she was ready to join them. To disappear into the sea, weightless at last. But then, her phone rang. A name she hadn't seen in years, it was you.

Yunjin always felt connected to them. The jellyfish, ethereal, delicate, unbound by gravity. They never had to make decisions, never had to struggle, never had to feel the weight of expectations crushing them. They simply floated. Existing, yet barely there.

As a child, she used to press her hands against the cool glass of the aquarium, mesmerized by the jellyfish floating effortlessly in their tank. She would watch them for hours, fascinated by their translucent bodies, the way they pulsed gently through the water, as if they had no worries, no burdens, no expectations.

She used to tell her childhood best friend that jellyfish were proof that life could be simple, that you didn't need bones or a heart to survive. "They just float" she had said once, her small fingers tracing the glass. "They don't have to do anything. They don't have to try." Her friend had laughed back then, shaking her head. "But doesn't that get boring? Just floating forever?"

At the time, Yunjin had smiled, agreeing without much thought. But now, all these years later, she realized that the jellyfish had it right all along. Life was exhausting. It was cruel. It weighed her down like an anchor strapped to her chest, dragging her deeper and deeper until she could barely breathe.

Maybe if she had just floated through it, if she hadn't tried so hard, she wouldn't have ended up here.
