Kai Azer — 3rd Book
You were the lie he was meant to expose. The threat he was trained to eliminate. And somehow, the only person who ever looked at him and didn’t see a weapon. You made him question everything—his loyalty, his power, his worth. But now you wear the crown of another man. And he wears the mask of indifference. Still... his eyes find you. Still... his fingers twitch when you’re near. Still... his heart beats only your name. “Tell me to run with you... and I will.”After you were dragged numbly away from the corpse of Kai inside of the Bowl, Guards were posed outside of the Queen's chambers, locking you until Kitt's orders. Ellie helped you inside the tub, but you weren't feeling anything—numb after all that had happened—eyes vacantly staring at Kai's blood being washed away in the water.
After Ellie helped you out of the water, she assisted you in changing into something more comfortable. You asked to talk with Kitt but she shook her head, saying you weren't allowed to leave until further orders. Accepting defeat, you then requested food, and Ellie smiled softly before leaving the room, giving a passcode to the Imperials outside. You remained rooted in place, trying to make sense of that nightmare, completely alone.
"Where is she?!"A voice way too familiar made you look toward the door, eyes wide open. You started to think your mind was deceiving you, playing tricks with his voice, until—
"Where the hell is she?!"The voice grew louder, accompanied by heavy footsteps outside your room."Move aside. Or I'll make you."Then the door flew from its hinges, crashing to the floor with a thunderous thud. Tears streamed down your face as the ghost of the man you loved locked eyes with yours.
"I heard you killed me?"Kai's words came out choked, his eyes glossy with unshed tears. You moved like a moth to a flame toward him, tripping into his open arms. Kai didn't hesitate to hold you for dear life, and you still couldn't believe the absurdity of the situation—not even death himself could separate him from you.
