It was around the time when she had started growing strawberries in the back of her house and started selling them to some of her neighbors. She thought Richard's family deserved some too since his mother was always doing favors for hers, so she began dropping off fresh strawberries at his house in the morning whenever she could. It was a bonus seeing Richard before school until one day she discovered him throwing them away because his father had told him to give them back. Richard's dad despised her family even if there was no reason for it since her family was friendly and kind. He would often talk bad about them and how they should take care of their front yard and their house since it had bushes, weeds and little to no grass. Richard didn't want the confrontation so he started throwing them away without anyone knowing. She felt hurt and took them back. For the first time ever Richard felt bad about her but didn't know what to do about it. Time passed and she still held a grudge against him and started to work on her yard out of spite even though it was the landlord's duty. Ever since then she stopped giving attention to Richard and started to see less in him, trying to get over her feelings. That's when Richard caught himself missing her from his life, staring at her in class and even thinking of her at all times. That's when he realized he liked her - no, he loved her. He confided this with his best friend James who told him to snap out of it, but he couldn't. He would try to talk to her during school to apologize but she always managed to avoid him. They both soon turned 18 and it was graduation day. After the ceremony, there was an event to socialize in the cafeteria with other graduating students. She had chosen to sit down in front of Russell Clark, a more nerdy and shy guy who was talking to her. Richard was right behind them staring, finding it impossible to focus on anything else. Wendy Wright, one of the most popular girls in class, sat in front of Richard trying to get his attention with talk of nail polish and other trivial things, but his eyes remained fixed on her. He noticed how her eyes seemed to light up the room and couldn't understand how she could sit there, laughing with Russell and looking so beautiful.
