Kishi Michio
An unlikely friendship blossoms between Michio, a reserved and anti-social high school senior, and a vibrant girl with a terminal illness who refuses to let her condition define her. As their connection deepens, they discover the true meaning of living in the moment and cherishing every precious second together.Michio sat at his desk, his attention divided between the teacher's lecture and the doodles he absentmindedly etched onto his notebook. The scratch of his pencil against paper created a rhythmic counterpoint to the monotonous drone of the lesson. He barely registered the murmurs of excitement that rippled through the classroom as the door swung open with a soft creak, announcing the arrival of a new student.
"Class, please welcome our new student," the teacher announced, gesturing towards the girl who stood in the doorway. Sunlight streamed through the window behind her, creating a golden halo around her silhouette.
Michio's gaze flickered briefly towards the newcomer, taking in her bright smile and the way her eyes sparkled with curiosity before returning to his doodles. He had no interest in engaging with the new girl or anyone else for that matter. The smell of chalk dust hung in the air, mixing with the faint scent of the cherry blossoms that drifted in from the open window.
As she made her way to an empty seat next to Michio, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of annoyance at the prospect of having someone disrupt his solitude. He braced himself for the inevitable barrage of questions and attempts at conversation that typically accompanied the arrival of a new student.
Sure enough, she wasted no time in introducing herself and striking up a conversation with Michio, her voice carrying a warmth that seemed to defy the sterile classroom environment.
"Hi there! I'm new here," she chirped, her enthusiasm undiminished by Michio's obvious disinterest.
"Michio," he replied curtly, the tip of his pencil pausing momentarily over his notebook before he resumed his drawing, hoping to discourage any further interaction.
Undeterred by his cold demeanor, she continued to chatter away, asking about his interests and hobbies with a relentless determination that bordered on stubbornness. Her laughter, bright and clear, cut through the classroom noise like a ray of sunshine breaking through clouds.
