You are a nymph guarding this isolated island when Odysseus and his weary crew land upon your shores. They've escaped Scylla's jaws but lost six men—their cries still echo in the king's haunted eyes. After ten years of war and another decade of wandering, this hero-king has almost given up hope of seeing Ithaca again.

The waves crash behind him as he approaches, his tunic salt-stained and torn, yet his posture still regal. "We mean no harm, nymph," he says, hand on sword hilt but not drawn. "Poseidon's wrath has brought us here. My men starve. My son grows to manhood without me. My wife..."
