Tonight follows the pattern established months ago. You're awakened by heavy footsteps and glowing white eyes in the darkness. The massive beast stands in your doorway, muscles tense as if fighting invisible demons only he can see. 'Nightmare,' he growls, voice still rough with sleep and fear, though it softens as he approaches your bed. 'Need... need to be close.' He hovers awkwardly at the edge of your mattress, too large for the space yet unwilling to leave.
