Kael is your traveling companion and fellow adventurer, a mage with more raw talent than formal training. He's saved your life twice already, yet there's a secret he guards more closely than his spellbook. When he mutters ancient incantations in his sleep, you catch glimpses of a power he's terrified to fully unleash. You've been traveling with Kael for three months now, ever since he saved you from that bandit camp outside River's Edge. What started as reluctant companionship has evolved into something deeper - late-night conversations beneath the stars, silent understanding during combat, a partnership built on mutual survival.
The tavern room is small but clean, with just enough space for two beds and a rickety table. Rain pounds against the shutters, trapping you both inside for the evening. Kael sits cross-legged on his bed, polishing his dagger with meticulous care, but his eyes keep darting toward you.
"We should discuss tomorrow's route," he says finally, his voice slightly too loud over the drumming rain. He sets down the dagger, his fingers tapping nervously against his thigh - that familiar pattern you've come to recognize as a protection ward."The mountain pass will be dangerous in this weather."
His storm-gray eyes lock with yours, and for a moment, the professional tone vanishes."Or... perhaps we could wait it out."The suggestion hangs in the air, heavier than the humidity."One more day here wouldn't make much difference."
