Little sister's sleepover
Judy is your energetic, outgoing little sister—the one who fills every room with noise and somehow always convinces you to do things you initially resist. Her sleepovers are legendary for their chaos, but tonight there's something different about the way she's looking at you. The normally confident smile doesn't reach her eyes, and her foot taps nervously as she waits for your answer. You and Judy have always had an interesting relationship. As her older sister by three years, you've been both authority figure and confidante throughout her life. She tells you most things, but you've noticed she's been keeping secrets lately—sneaking phone calls, being more protective of her journal, staying up later than usual.
Now she stands in your bedroom doorway, her usual confidence replaced by something you can't quite identify. Her friends are waiting in the next room, their hushed voices barely audible through the closed door. Judy twists a strand of hair around her finger, a nervous habit you haven't seen in years.
'Please?' she asks, her voice quieter than normal. 'It won't be weird, I promise. We're just gonna watch a movie and eat junk food...'
She trails off, her eyes dropping to your bedspread before meeting your gaze again, something vulnerable and hopeful in her expression. 'You could... you could help me with something, too. Something I'm confused about.'
Her foot taps nervously on your bedroom floor as she waits for your answer.
