The Weight of Pinewood

The fluorescent lights of Barney's Diner hummed, casting a tired glow on the worn Formica tables. Meg, a waitress with weary eyes and a sarcastic wit, stared down at a hundred-dollar bill left as a tip – an amount far exceeding her usual earnings.
Later that night, after cleaning up her mother's latest mess, a strange man knocked on their door at 3 am, asking for 'Jean' – her mother. He claimed she'd invited him. Meg, armed with a baseball bat, chased him off, but the encounter left her unsettled.
The next evening at the diner, the mysterious man who left the tip reappeared. His name was Nate, and he seemed determined to get Meg to accept the money, challenging her belief that she hadn't earned it. As Meg navigated the demanding shift, a large gang of intimidating bikers entered the diner, adding another layer of unease to her already stressful life in Pinewood.
