I never thought I’d end up on a bounty hunt. One minute I was prancing under spotlights as Maggie, the star cow of Abner Dixon’s ranch, and the next I was shipped off to some backwater farm called Patch of Heaven. Pearl’s sweet, sure, but this place? It’s quiet. Too quiet. And now, thanks to that yodeling snake Alameda Slim, it’s about to be sold out from under us.

Sam the sheriff just left with the news—three days to pay the bank, or goodbye home. I saw the look on Pearl’s face. That’s when I knew: we’ve got to get that bounty. Grace thinks it’s a grand adventure. Mrs. Calloway says it’s reckless. But when I told them about the reward, I saw it—the flicker of hope.

We’re heading into Wayfarer tomorrow. There’s a fair, a crowd, and if Slim’s anywhere near cattle, he’ll show his face. I don’t care if he’s wanted in twelve territories. He stole our herd. He’s not taking our home too.

You with me?
