Heart in Ashes
Luna Baxter and Simon Fulmer's five-year marriage shatters when Simon's first love reenters their lives. After receiving provocative messages and intimate photos of her husband's infidelity, Luna doesn't shed a tear or create a scene. Instead, she silently signs their pre-existing divorce agreement and orchestrates an audacious plan: she'll host a wedding for Simon and his mistress. With calculated precision and quiet resolve, Luna prepares to disappear from their lives forever while ensuring they face the consequences of their betrayal.Chapter 1 Chapter 1
"Mrs. Fulmer, here's the divorce agreement from the safe." On Luna Baxter's fifth wedding anniversary, her secretary, Susanna Mace, handed the divorce papers to her in a Westonian restaurant. On the day Simon Fulmer and Luna registered their marriage five years ago, Simon, as a gesture of sincerity, drafted and signed a divorce agreement before locking it in a safe. The agreement stipulated that Luna could sign it at any time to end the marriage if Simon was ever unfaithful. Luna swiftly signed the document. She looked at the empty seat across from her, her expression dim. "Take the divorce papers to the attorney. Then, book a hotel and prepare the wedding venue in advance." Susanna froze for a moment before she tentatively asked, "Whose names should I write for the bride and groom, Mrs. Fulmer?""Simon Fulmer and Sophie Sutherland," Luna replied, to which Susanna didn't say another word. Sophie was Simon's first love. Susanna's voice trembled as she continued, "Mrs. Fulmer, how many days from now should the wedding be held?" Luna slowly turned her gaze to the window. The blue fireworks, blazing for an hour, flickered out at last, leaving only a faint line in the sky. "Happy Fifth Anniversary to Simon Fulmer & Luna Baxter." Luna withdrew her gaze and pressed her lips together. "The wedding will be in seven days. Also, book me a flight to Naavi for that same day.""Naavi, ma'am?" Susanna was stunned for a few seconds, hesitating before advising, "Mrs. Fulmer, perhaps you should reconsider?" On the day of their marriage registration five years ago, in addition to the divorce agreement that Simon voluntarily signed, Luna's parents, who resided in Naavi, refused his million-dollar wedding gift and had him sign a prenuptial agreement. The agreement stated that if Luna were ever heartbroken by the marriage and returned to her parents' home alone, Simon would be forbidden from stepping into Naavi for the rest of his life. If that day came, Simon wouldn't even have the chance to beg for reconciliation. "It's fine." Luna shook her head. It would be her birthday in seven days. She planned to leave Simon, take a flight to Naavi, and arrange for someone to host a wedding for him and Sophie, fulfilling their wishes. After Susanna left, Luna's phone suddenly vibrated. A notification popped up. Simon had used the company's Facebook account to publicly post a photo of the blue fireworks display, tagging her. "Happy fifth anniversary, my love. I will love you forever." Within less than a minute, the post garnered over a thousand comments. "I'm so envious! I was wondering why Lake City had an hour-long blue fireworks show tonight. It was Mr. Fulmer's surprise for Mrs. Fulmer after all!""Five years of marriage and Mr. Fulmer's declarations of love are still this grand.""I heard that after Mr. Fulmer had surgery under general anesthesia last year, he wasn't fully awake yet when he saw Mrs. Fulmer in the recovery room. His groggy first words were, 'You have a sensitive stomach. Did you eat lunch on time?' Even the nurses were moved to tears at that moment." Among the flood of comments, Simon replied to one. "Lulu is my wife. Loving her, spoiling her, and protecting her for a lifetime of peace and happiness is my duty as her husband." Instantly, this reply was met with a wave of envious outcries in the comments. Yet, as the object of all this admiration, Luna impassively stared at the empty seat across from her. Once, there was love between her and Simon. They had never fought in their seven years together. For seven years, Simon had given her wealth, status, and love. But a month ago, on the night Simon was away on a business trip, Luna discovered that he had long been unfaithful. That night, Simon sent her a voice message. When she played it, a woman's voice came through the speaker. "I've been back for six months. With just a flick of my finger, he's fallen into the palm of my hand. He prepared a blue fireworks show for me tonight. Since I don't like blue, let me give it to you for your anniversary celebration so that it won't go to waste." At the time, Luna didn't even know who the woman was. That was until two weeks ago when Simon walked into a party in the private room with that woman. Simon introduced her, saying she was his distant younger cousin. Sophie's delicate face lit up with a bright smile as she greeted Luna, "Hi! I've been back for over six months. I'm finally meeting you, cousin-in-law!" The woman's charming and all-too-familiar voice left Luna in a daze. Later, Luna left early as she couldn't stay. When Simon came home drunk in the middle of the night, Luna received a message from an unknown sender. "It was way too thrilling on the rooftop tonight. I couldn't hold back and left scratch marks all over Mr. Ex. I've gotta say, Mr. Ex is still as wild as ever. He's like a stallion in heat." Luna looked at the passed-out Simon on the bed. His shirt was unbuttoned at the top, and his chest was covered in scratch marks. The shirt he wore was the men's version of the matching white shirts she had custom-made for their anniversary last year. On the collar was an embroidery of the word "Husband" she had hand-stitched. When Simon received the shirt, he was so touched that he took her hand and promised, "Lulu, every time I wear this shirt you gave me, I'll remind myself to stay away from other women. I'll save myself for you." Now, the same shirt bore a glaring lipstick stain on its collar. And today, on their fifth wedding anniversary, she arrived first at the Westonian restaurant. Five minutes later, she received a call from Simon. Simon said he was preparing a surprise for her and couldn't make it to their candlelit dinner, so she should enjoy the fireworks alone. Two minutes after he ended the call, Luna received a photo from him on WhatsApp. She clicked on the photo and saw Simon having a candlelit dinner with Sophie. The flowers and red wine made for a romantic sight. Simon must have posted his love declaration on Facebook while he lay in Sophie's arms.
Chapter 2 Chapter 2
Luna ignored Simon's faraway high-profile public love declaration. She got up, grabbed her bag, and went home. Once back in the bedroom, she asked the maid for a pair of scissors. Luna took out her custom-made women's version of their matching shirts and cut it into strips. Then, she shredded their marriage certificate into pieces as well. She packed everything into a gift box and wrote "Second Wedding Gift" on it. Just as Luna finished, she turned around and ran into Simon, who had just returned. Simon's handsome face was filled with tenderness as he took her hand and led her downstairs. "Honey, I prepared a surprise for you. Come see." When they got downstairs, Luna saw a large box truck parked outside. On the truck was an enormous pink gift box. As Simon clapped his hands, the gift box automatically opened. Balloons and confetti rose into the air, revealing a blush-pink Maybach. Two staff members quickly raised a banner that read, "A Gift for Princess Lulu." The scene instantly drew admiration and envy from the surrounding crowd. Simon took out the Maybach's key and handed it to Luna before he said affectionately, "Lulu, I remembered you mentioning wanting a new car last time. As your husband, it's my duty to buy you everything you want." When Luna reached out to take the car key, her sharp eyes caught a detail. Around Simon's left wrist was a bracelet made from a bra strap. A wave of disgust surged through her as she frowned deeply. "What's wrong? Did you not want a Maybach? Or do you not like the color?" Simon's dark eyes were full of concern when he noticed Luna's reaction. Luna shook her head and fixated her reddened eyes on him. "It's a nice car," she said. What she didn't want wasn't the Maybach—it was Simon. Hearing this, Simon let out a sigh of relief. When they returned to the bedroom, Simon's sharp eyes noticed a gift box on the vanity. Just as he was about to take a closer look, Luna stepped in, covering the writing on the box. "Lulu, is this a surprise you got me?" Simon's dark eyes lit up with excitement. Luna forced a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Yes, but you can't see it yet. I'm still working on a second gift. I'll give you both gifts in seven days. Knowing you, I think you'll really like them.""Two surprises in seven days?" Simon murmured, visibly intrigued. But as he pondered aloud, he started trying to recall what special occasion it was in seven days. Suddenly, realization dawned on him. Stepping out of the bedroom, he called his assistant, Luke Newman. "I almost forgot that Lulu's birthday is in seven days. Start planning a grand birthday party for her right away. Yes, the bigger, the better. I can't let her down." While Simon was on the phone, he didn't notice Luna standing silently at the bedroom door, her expression as cold as ice. In the seven years they had been together, Simon had never once forgotten her birthday. This year, with Sophie back in town, he had completely erased Luna's birthday from his mind. Fine by her. She was curious to see how he'd react if the birthday girl didn't show up to the extravagant birthday party he was preparing. Luna took out her phone and sent a message to Susanna. "Find out where Simon is hosting my birthday party. Book the wedding venue one floor above it.""Yes, Mrs. Fulmer," Susanna replied promptly. Luna turned to head to the bathroom when Simon, just about to re-enter the bedroom, received another call from Luke. "By the way, Mr. Fulmer, please don't forget that you're supposed to take Mrs. Fulmer to the cake shop near her college today. If she doesn't get her cake, she'll probably be upset tonight.""Ah, right, I almost forgot. Order a cake Lulu likes in advance. I'll take her there myself," Simon instructed before hurriedly pushing open the bedroom door. Luna heard every word loud and clear. Seeing her, Simon took the bathrobe from her hands and set it aside. "Lulu, let's go to the cake shop near the college. I've already had the owner prepare your favorite cake. It'll be ready when we get there." The cake shop near the college entrance was one Luna loved during her college years. It was there, in front of the shop, that she and Simon had their first encounter due to a small incident. Two years into their relationship, they got married, and every year on their wedding anniversary, Simon would go there with her for cake. In the past, Simon would always prepare ahead of time, but now he needed Luke's reminder to remember the occasion. An hour later, a sleek black Bentley pulled up outside the quaint, small cake shop, instantly drawing attention. When a small-time influencer doing a live stream spotted Simon and Luna, she excitedly held up her phone and approached them. "Oh my gosh, it's the husband of the year, Mr. Fulmer!""Everyone in the live stream, look! The couple I ship so hard is so perfect together! There's a rumor that Mr. Fulmer brings Mrs. Fulmer here every year on their wedding anniversary. It's true after all!" After stepping out of the car, Simon held Luna's hand as they walked toward the shop. He keenly noticed her right shoelace had come undone. Amidst the stares of onlookers, Simon stopped in his tracks and respectfully bent down to tie her shoelace. This act made the surrounding female college students envious, and one bold young woman stepped forward to offer her blessings. "An ultra-rich CEO bending down to tie his wife's shoelace! I wouldn't even dare dream of such a thing. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness!" Luna stared blankly at the man crouching before her, her expression devoid of warmth. She looked up and responded with a polite yet distant smile. Simon held Luna's hand as they entered the cake shop and headed straight to their usual spot by the window. He turned to the shopkeeper behind the counter and asked, "Is the cake ready? The filling should be mango-flavored, and the cream should be strawberry-flavored. Lulu loves that combination. And make sure it says 'Happy 5th Wedding Anniversary' on top.""Here's your freshly made cake!" The shopkeeper had a deep impression of the Fulmers. Just earlier, she had told her husband, "Even though it's past nine, with how close they are, they'll definitely come in to celebrate their anniversary." And sure enough, the Fulmers did come. As the shopkeeper brought the cake over, her kind face glowed with a warm smile. "Five years in, and you are still as devoted to Ms. Baxter as ever, Mr. Fulmer. When are you planning to have a baby?"
Chapter 3 Chapter 3
Simon couldn't hold back his smile as he gazed lovingly at Luna. "We'll go with the flow. Hopefully, we'll have one by the end of the year. Boy or girl, it doesn't matter. I'll love the child as long as Lulu's the mother." Luna lowered her gaze to the cake before her, remaining silent for a few seconds. Ever considerate, Simon began slicing the cake when a man entered the shop. The man informed Simon that another vehicle had scratched his car and told him to check. Simon frowned, his expression darkening. "I'll go check it out. Lulu, go ahead and dig in. I'll take care of it quickly and come right back. And order yourself a drink, but nothing cold. You're due for your period in two days." His thoughtful words once again drew envious murmurs from the other customers in the shop. "Oh my goodness, he even remembers when her period is. Mr. Fulmer really is the perfect man. He's flawless!""I can't even imagine how happy I'd be if I were Ms. Baxter." The shopkeeper glanced at the quiet Luna and smiled warmly. "Ms. Baxter, you're truly blessed. It's so rare for a woman to meet a loving and devoted man in her lifetime." Luna forced a bitter smile. "Indeed, it's rare." In truth, she hadn't met one either. Not wanting to continue the conversation, Luna turned her head to look out the window. Meanwhile, Simon followed the man out of the shop. The man leaned in close and whispered something to Simon, in which Simon nodded and strode toward a pink G-Class parked beside the Bentley. That pink G-Class looked oddly familiar to Luna. At the last gathering, Sophie had driven up in a pink G-Class, making a grand entrance. The license plate on that car was the same as the one Luna was seeing now. The pink G-Class was said to be a welcome-back gift from Simon, costing nearly three million. It was almost the same price as the blush-pink Maybach he gifted her today. Simon truly was a master at keeping things balanced. He ensured his ex, also his first love, and his current partner, who was his wife, got equal attention. Luna couldn't see what was happening inside the car. As she looked away, she received a call from a number she didn't know. She answered after hesitating for a moment. A familiar voice came through the receiver. "You've gotten smarter, haven't you, Sophie baby? You even sent someone to get me." Simon's voice was hoarse, dripping with desire and affection. "You got my location from my assistant, huh? I told you I'd come to you once she was asleep." Sophie's voice was delicate and coquettish as she purred, "But I'm upset! Just imagining you spending your anniversary with her and what you two will do later makes me sick." Guessing Sophie was jealous, Simon chuckled lightly and coaxed her, "Be good. I've already given you every single drop in me. I won't touch her tonight. Besides, didn't we do it three rounds two hours ago? Are you still not satisfied?""Hmph, but I want more… Send her home quickly and come to me.""You little minx. Follow me in your car later. We'll do it in the car.""You're such a bad boy!" Soon, the sounds of sticky, intimate kissing came through the line. Luna's hands trembled as she ended the call abruptly. She stared at the cake in front of her, a wave of nausea and revulsion washing over her. It felt as if something was gripping her heart, twisting it until she was breathless, dizzy, and utterly uncomfortable. Gripping the fork, she stabbed at the chocolate plaque that read "Happy 5th Anniversary," smashing it to pieces. Simon returned half an hour later. When he noticed Luna had barely touched the cake and saw her pale face, his heart clenched with concern. "You look pale! Are you feeling unwell? I'll take you to a doctor right now." The urgency in his tone was palpable, but Luna turned her head away, refusing to look at that hypocritical face. "I heard something disgusting. I don't feel like eating anymore," Luna snapped. "What did you hear?" Simon's thick brows furrowed, his anxiety apparent. "You wouldn't want to know." Luna's eyes were red. Simon was at a loss. He stood and tried to hold her, but she dodged him. Luna got up and strode out of the cake shop, immediately hailing a cab. She instructed the driver to take her straight home. "Lulu, wait for me!" Simon, unable to stop the cab, hurried back to his Bentley and started chasing after it. Luna sat in the back seat, her gaze fixed on the rearview mirror. The scene playing out behind her was almost comical—the Bentley followed the cab closely while the pink G-Class trailed right behind the Bentley. Once they entered the villa area, Luna stepped out of the cab. Simon got out of his car immediately and anxiously grabbed her hand. "Lulu, why are you upset? Is it because I went to deal with the car issue instead of staying to eat cake with you?" Luna tilted her head up, staring directly at him. Simon's handsome face was full of concern and guilt, yet there wasn't the slightest hint of fear of being caught cheating. "Yeah." Simon sighed upon hearing that. "I'm at fault for handling things poorly. Next time something like this happens, I'll stay with you even if the car gets wrecked." He paused, then gently held Luna's hand and cautiously asked, "Luke called just now. An important client had an accidental fall and is in critical condition. I need to head over. Is it okay if I go, Lulu?" Luna frowned, her sharp instincts catching the flicker of excitement and anticipation hidden in his otherwise helpless expression. Simon sure was eager to rush to his rendezvous. He was even making up a lie about a client's accident. Luna only put on a small smile. Not wanting to waste her energy on exposing him, she simply responded with a calm hum. She walked toward the villa, but when she reached the front door, she didn't go inside. Instead, she turned and headed toward the parking lot. There, she saw the two people passionately embracing and kissing inside the pink G-Class. Inside the car, Sophie's sultry eyes sparkled. "I wore these black stockings just for you. No underwear, of course. After all these years, I know your tastes haven't changed." Simon's dark eyes were filled with unrestrained excitement. His hands eagerly reached under her skirt as his voice turned hoarse. "Are you planning to drain me tonight? I can't wait anymore. Let me put it in first." Sophie stopped his hand. When she saw the frustrated look in Simon's eyes, her red lips curled in a smile. "Let's go somewhere else. You like the lakeside, don't you?" Simon smirked, his Adam's apple bobbing as he replied, "Are we doing something so bold tonight?""You're spending tomorrow with me for my birthday, right? Think of this as your reward." Sophie winked playfully. The pink G-Class quickly started and drove out of the underground parking lot. Luna's phone suddenly vibrated. She received a WhatsApp message from Simon. She opened it to find a location pin by the lakeside.
Chapter 4 Chapter 4
Half an hour later, Luna sat in a cab, her eyes fixed on the pink Mercedes G-Class not far away. Simon opened the sunroof, and within a minute, the pink G-Class started rocking rapidly. A crowd began gathering nearby, some stopping to gawk, exclaiming in astonishment, "Wow, making out outdoors. How exciting.""Tsk, tsk, rich people sure know how to have fun—lakeside, a G-Class, and a beautiful woman. It's going to be one heck of a night." Luna's eyes reddened as she stared at the swaying vehicle. Her entire body felt cold to the bone. Hands trembling, she recorded a five-minute video. Afterward, she sent the video to Susanna with a raspy voice note. "Play this during the wedding." Once the message was sent, Luna dialed Maple Morgan, her mother. "Mom, I'll come to Naavi in seven days to see you and Dad." On the other end of the line, Maple sensed the slight quiver in Luna's voice and immediately frowned. "Is Simon coming with you?" she asked. "I'm coming back alone," Luna replied. "Alright, don't be upset," Maple said, her tone grim. She had a rough idea of what had happened, so she reassured her daughter, "I'll pick you up from the airport." Late into the night, Simon returned home noisily, waking the sleeping Luna. Reeking of alcohol, he stumbled over to her, cupping her face in his hands as he began kissing her. Perhaps uneasy over Luna's earlier outburst, he murmured drunkenly, "Darling, I love you so much. You can yell at me, curse me, even hit me, but don't ever leave me, okay? Baby, don't worry. I'll never cheat on you." Luna, on the spacious bed, coldly stared at Simon. Simon had clearly drunk too much last night. He even returned home without wiping the red lipstick marks on his neck. Yet the love in his eyes seemed so genuine, without a hint of deceit. The next morning, Luna woke up groggily to find that Simon had squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush, prepared warm mouthwash, and even laid out an outfit for her. Once Luna was ready, Simon accompanied her downstairs. Simon's phone at the breakfast table buzzed soon. He glanced at the message and then looked at Luna apologetically. "Lulu, I won't be home tonight. There's a gathering." Luna paused mid-bite of her waffle. She knew very well that Simon was planning to spend the evening with Sophie, but she couldn't even muster the energy to expose him. "Alright." After Simon left, Luna hailed a cab and quietly followed him. 20 minutes later, Simon drove into a well-maintained residential area. Sophie, dressed in an elegant white Chanel-inspired outfit and a matching scarf, looked stunning and refined. When she spotted Simon's Bentley from a distance, she waved excitedly before running over to get into the car. The two stayed in the car for a while, likely caught up in their intimate activities before Simon drove out of the neighborhood. Half an hour later, the black Bentley stopped in front of a wedding photography studio. Sophie stepped out from the passenger seat. As Simon joined her, she affectionately looped her arm through his, and they walked inside together. A staff member at the entrance greeted them warmly. "Mr. Fulmer and Ms. Sutherland, welcome! We've cleared the studio for you. Let me show you the styles of wedding photos we'll be shooting today." Luna sat expressionlessly inside the cab as she watched the scene unfold. A chilling numbness washed over her. Her phone suddenly rang then. She glanced at the caller ID—it was her best friend, Clover Lambert. Swiping to answer, Luna held the phone to her ear. Clover's cheerful voice quickly filled the line. "Lulu, where are you? Let's grab afternoon tea." Luna directly gave Clover the address of the wedding photography studio. On the other end, Clover went silent for a few seconds, then let out a dramatic wail. "You've been married to Simon for five years, and yet, you're taking wedding photos again now! My goodness, look at you two getting more in love as time goes by. Ugh, you're killing this single lady here with envy." Luna seemed slightly out of it as she replied bitterly, "Clover, he's not taking wedding photos with me." Clover was stunned for a few seconds before realizing something was wrong. "With another woman? Simon cheated? That's impossible! Hold on, I'll be there in 20 minutes!" 20 minutes later, Luna got into Clover's car. As Clover anxiously questioned her, Luna explained how Simon had cheated on her with Sophie after Sophie's return to the country. Then, she played a provocative voice message that Sophie had sent from Simon's phone a month ago. Pointing at the bridal shop, Luna smiled bitterly. "Clover, as you can see, it's Sophie's birthday today. Simon brought her here to take some wedding photos." Clover followed Luna's gaze. Inside the bridal shop, Simon had his head down as he adjusted the neckline of Sophie's wedding gown. His expression was gentle, and his movements were cautious. It was as if he were handling a delicate piece of art. "I can't take this anymore." Clover's eyebrows pulled together into a deep frown. "I'm going in there to beat them up and avenge you!" Clover had a fiery temper. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to storm into the shop. However, Luna stopped her. "Wait, I want to see what they'll do next." Half an hour later, Simon and Sophie walked out of the bridal shop. One was dressed in a sharp black suit, the other in a white fitted wedding gown. Hand in hand, they got into a Bentley. After some time, they arrived at a lakeside. The wedding photo shoot area had been cordoned off in advance to prevent any potential paparazzi. When the two arrived, the photographer, who was already waiting, flattered them with a big smile. "Mr. Fulmer and Ms. Sutherland, you are such a perfect match. You're the most attractive couple I've ever photographed." Sophie said with a playful smile as she held Simon's arm. "Well, I've got an eye for men. It's true that my husband is dashing." Over the next half-hour, the two changed into three different sets of suits and wedding dresses. With the winter temperature on the colder side, Simon thoughtfully picked up a thick shawl during breaks in the shoot and draped it over Sophie's shoulders. Whenever Sophie struggled to find the right mood for the photos, Simon would coax and encourage her until she naturally eased into the right mood. After the shoot was completed, Simon didn't rush to leave. Instead, he suddenly got down on one knee. Under Sophie's surprised gaze, he brought out a bouquet of roses and an engagement ring he had prepared long ago. "When you mentioned that you wanted to take wedding photos, I always felt we should have a proper proposal ceremony. You've been so understanding, constantly reassuring me that there's no need for a proposal. "But I can't let you settle for less. Sophie, will you marry me?"
Chapter 5 Chapter 5
Sophie's eyes turned red with emotion as she nodded excitedly. "Yes! I'll marry you! I'll marry you a hundred times!" The surrounding camera crew immediately erupted into cheers. "Congratulations!" Inside the car, Luna watched the scene unfold with a cold expression, her entire body numb. When Simon proposed to her five years ago, he was just as heartfelt. He had worn a sharp black suit, held a bouquet of vibrant roses, and presented her with a meticulously prepared engagement ring. Back then, he even choked up while proposing. "Lulu, you're the only woman I'll ever love in this lifetime. There will be no other women in my heart. I beg you, please marry me. I swear, I'll end myself if I ever cheat." Luna let out a bitter laugh until tears started to fall suddenly. It turned out everything was a lie. The promises, too, were lies. Even his so-called sincerity was fleeting and ever-changing. Looking at Luna with concern, Clover gently asked, "They've left. Should we follow them?""Let's go," Luna said, lowering her gaze and slowly turning to look out the window. She wanted to see where Simon and Sophie were heading next. The Bentley pulled up in front of a Westonian restaurant an hour later. The restaurant was located in the most bustling part of the city and had window-side seating that was notoriously difficult to reserve. Since it wasn't mealtime, there were only a few diners. Each table in the restaurant was separated by screens, providing privacy. It was clear that Simon had taken great precautions. Seeing Simon and Sophie walk into the restaurant, Luna first went to the shop next door and bought a more mature-looking outfit. After donning a mask and a large hat, she slowly made her way into the restaurant. Clover had already taken care of everything by paying to secure the table behind Simon's. As the two of them sat down, a middle-aged couple, guided by a waiter, was seated at Simon's table. The couple appeared to be in their 50s and looked like ordinary people. On closer inspection, however, the middle-aged woman bore a 50% resemblance to Sophie. "Don't tell me Simon is meeting Sophie's parents!" Clover exclaimed in surprise. Luna remained expressionless as she took out her phone. Finding the perfect angle, she quickly snapped a few photos through the gap in the screen. Her timing was impeccable; she captured the moment Simon handed a black card to Sophie's mother. "This scumbag sure knows how to spend big," Clover muttered angrily. Luna's tear-filled eyes lowered slightly as she slowly put down her phone. She recalled how Simon had also presented an unlimited black card to show his sincerity when he met her parents for the first time years ago. But her parents had firmly refused—they didn't want to "sell" their daughter. Now, the same move was being repeated. "Let's go," Luna stated. She didn't want to stay there for even one more second. The two made their way down to the first floor. Clover offered to take Luna home, but Luna shook her head. "Clover, my mind's a mess right now. I just want to be alone for a while." Hearing that, Clover didn't push further but repeatedly reminded her to stay safe before leaving. After Clover left, Luna wandered the streets alone. The outdoor temperature had dropped to 30.2°F. Luna was wearing only a thin coat. However, the chill on her body was nothing compared to the cold in her heart. She didn't know how long she had been walking when her phone suddenly vibrated. It was a message from Simon. As Luna opened the message, three wedding photos immediately appeared on her phone screen. One showed Sophie leaning against Simon, the two of them looking intimate. The second was of them sharing a sweet kiss in each other's arms. The third captured Simon on one knee, holding a bouquet, while Sophie beamed unreservedly. "Today, we took our wedding photos, and he publicly proposed to me. I was really touched. He even asked to meet my parents. Aside from getting the marriage certificate, we've gone through all the steps necessary to have a wedding. "Who says it's bad to share a man? I can accept it—can you? After all, I'm not the one losing out." Luna stared at Sophie's arrogant words, but she didn't reply. Instead, she forwarded the three wedding photos along with the pictures she had taken earlier of Simon's dinner with Sophie's parents to Susanna. She also attached screenshots of all their chat records. "Make sure all of this is revealed on the wedding day," she instructed. After that, Luna slid her phone back into her pocket. She continued walking aimlessly, her steps heavy and lifeless. She didn't notice the out-of-control black car speeding toward her. Bang! Luna didn't have time to get out of the way. She was sent flying nearly seven feet away. It felt like an eternity before she opened her eyes again. The sharp smell of disinfectant hit her nose, and her vision was filled with the sterile white of a hospital room. Simon, noticing she was awake, hurried to her bedside. His dark eyes were filled with worry and lingering fear. "You're awake! Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" he asked, his voice tight with concern. Luna's gaze shifted slowly, finally landing on Simon. Simon's eyes were red as he looked at her with a mix of nervousness and deep sorrow, as though he wished he could have taken her place and been the one injured. Yet all Luna felt was a wave of nausea. The images of Simon and Sophie's intimate wedding photos flashed in her mind, and her stomach churned violently. "Simon, oh Simon…" she thought. "Which version of you is the real one?" "Why aren't you saying anything? Are you in pain? I'll get the doctor," Simon blurted out anxiously, turning to leave. But before he could go, Luna grabbed his hand. Her voice was hoarse as she asked, "Why are you here?"
Chapter 6 Chapter 6
Simon was slightly taken aback. When he received the call from the hospital, he had been dining with Sophie's parents. At the time, he was so overcome with fear that he immediately left Sophie's family behind to rush to the hospital. Thankfully, Luna hadn't suffered any major injuries. "I was out having dinner with some clients. There's an important deal I need to follow up on. I came over right away when the hospital informed me about your accident," he explained. Luna's soft eyes narrowed slightly as she stared straight at him. "You just came from a dinner with your clients?" she asked. "Yeah, Lulu. I'm so tired." Simon massaged his temples. Hearing that, Luna slowly closed her eyes and said nothing more. Simon sat by her side to keep her company. After a while, his phone suddenly rang. He decisively declined the call, only to have the caller persistently call again. Simon muted his phone and began typing a message with his head lowered. A minute later, his expression became animated. He hastily made up an excuse and left in a hurry. Not long after Simon had left, Clover arrived to visit Luna. However, her expression was anything but cheerful. "Guess who I ran into on my way upstairs," she huffed. Seeing Clover, Luna sat up slightly and thought for a few seconds before venturing a guess. "Simon?" Clover scoffed and put on an expression full of disdain. "The third floor of this hospital is the obstetrics and gynecology department. When I got in the elevator to come up, I saw Simon with Sophie as soon as the doors opened. "I felt something was off, so I followed the crowd out of the elevator, only to see Sophie holding a prenatal checkup report. Simon was practically grinning from ear to ear, murmuring about how he's going to be a dad." Luna froze slightly, her gaze lowered thoughtfully. There was not a trace of displeasure on her face. "She's pregnant, huh?" she remarked softly. Clover couldn't help but feel that Luna was acting unlike herself, though she couldn't pinpoint exactly what felt off. She leaned closer to Luna and touched her forehead. "Are you not angry? Wait, you don't have a fever that's messed up your brain, right?" Luna gave a faint smile, her pale lips slightly parted as she spoke. "News flash—Simon has a medical condition. The doctor said he can't reproduce." Three years ago, they had tried for a baby for an entire year, but she couldn't get pregnant. She initially thought the issue was with her and even scheduled a hospital appointment for a checkup. Worried about the stress it might place on her, Simon also went with her to get checked. When the results came back, it was revealed that Simon was infertile. Luna couldn't sleep that night. She spent the whole night convincing herself to accept the idea of a childless life. She was fine as long as Simon loved her. To protect Simon's ego and career, she had even asked the doctor, Eason Hilt, to keep Simon's condition a secret, claiming publicly that she needed to "fix her health" before they could conceive. But now, she felt her three years of careful secrecy was utterly foolish after she knew how thrilled Simon was to become a father. "Holy shit, now that's what I call news!" Clover was so shocked she nearly jumped out of her seat. Rubbing her hands together, she wiggled her eyebrows and suggested, "Lulu, I've got an idea. You're moving to Naavi in five days, right? Let's pretend we don't know anything for now. Once Sophie gives birth, we'll send Simon his medical report. I'd love to see whether he'll lose his mind when he finds out!" Simon didn't show up at the hospital the next morning. In the afternoon, Susanna came to Luna's ward. After reporting on the wedding preparations, she hesitatingly glanced at Luna. "Say what's on your mind," Luna mentioned, her sleek brows furrowed slightly. Susanna nervously glanced at Luna and whispered, "Mr. Fulmer asked me to deliver some documents to the villa this afternoon. When I arrived, I saw Sophie Sutherland sitting on the living room couch in her pajamas. "Mrs. Fulmer, you've always been kind to me; I just couldn't stand by and say nothing. I thought I should let you know." A chill crept up from the soles of Luna's feet, and her delicate face turned cold. It seemed that Sophie had already moved into their home while Luna was still hospitalized. No wonder Simon had specifically told her last night to inform him before she was discharged so that he could pick her up. "I understand. Thank you." Luna picked up her phone from the table and opened the surveillance footage, which was completely dark. Simon had deliberately covered the surveillance camera in advance. With a frown, Luna turned to Susanna, who had not yet left. "I'll find a way to get Simon and Sophie out of the villa tonight. Please get someone to reinstall the camera. Make sure it's discreet.""Understood, Mrs. Fulmer," Susanna replied. At 10:00 pm, Simon arrived at the hospital. He looked at Luna lying on the hospital bed, his dark eyes filled with guilt. "Lulu, did you ask me to come because you missed me? I'm sorry, I was busy all day—" Luna frowned, cutting him off and offering him an excuse to avoid putting him in a tough spot. "I know. You were busy preparing for my birthday party, which is why you're visiting so late." Simon was momentarily stunned but then smiled as he took Luna's hand and gently squeezed it. "As expected of you, Lulu. You know me best." Luna fixed her gaze on Simon and agreed, "Yes, I do understand you. I understand everything you do." Simon's heart skipped a beat, and he mumbled, "Lulu…" Just as he was about to say something, a nurse came in with a cart to replace Luna's IV. The next day, Luna opened the surveillance footage and saw Sophie and Simon having lunch together in the villa. Sophie sat in Luna's usual spot, pouting and refusing to eat. She claimed her pregnancy had caused her to lose her appetite. "Be good and take care of yourself." Simon patiently spoon-fed her. "Once the baby is born, I'll figure out a way to have Lulu accept our child as her godchild." Half an hour later, Sophie had eaten too much. She waddled upstairs with a smug expression, her belly protruding. Simon called the house staff over and spoke to them in a low, commanding tone. "Sophie is pregnant and has a short temper. Be patient with her. Also, none of you are to mention her moving in here to Lulu when Lulu comes back!""Yes, Mr. Fulmer," the staff responded. Luna watched the surveillance footage calmly. Then, she looked away and began instructing Susanna to prepare the wedding invitations. She intended to finalize the guest list for the invitations today.

The next day marked the third day of the countdown to Luna's departure. Early in the morning, Simon came to visit Luna with a container of bone broth. "I asked the housekeeper to make this for you. It's your favorite bone broth with vegetables. Try some.""Okay." Luna didn't refuse and ate it slowly, taking small bites. Simon soon left. About half an hour later, Luna turned on the surveillance footage. In the living room, Sophie was throwing a tantrum about wanting to go shopping. It was raining that day, and the roads were slippery. Simon, worried she might fall and hurt the baby, arranged for luxury brands to bring items to the villa for her to choose from. On top of that, he thoughtfully contacted a brand selling maternity and baby products to deliver newborn clothes for Sophie to pick out. That evening, the attorney, Luther Lawson, visited Luna's hospital room. "Mrs. Fulmer, your divorce agreement with Mr. Fulmer has officially taken effect.""Thank you." Luna looked at the divorce papers and then turned to Susanna, who stood nearby. "Make a copy and place it in the box labeled 'Second-Wedding Gift.'" Seven years of fate had finally come to an end. It was now the second last day. Early that morning, Simon arrived again, this time with a bouquet of sunflowers and an emerald rosary worth millions. Looking at Luna, who seemed to be recovering well, he had a smile all over his handsome face as he gently put the rosary around her neck. "You'll be discharged tomorrow. I went to a priest last night and asked for this emerald rosary. It's for protection and peace." Luna touched the emerald rosary on her neck, her expression tightening slightly. Last night, Sophie had complained of stomach pain. Worried about her, Simon had taken her to the hospital. Afterward, he had urgently gone to get an amulet for her. The emerald rosary Luna was now wearing had been bought as an afterthought during the same trip. As soon as Simon left, Susanna entered the hospital room. "Mrs. Fulmer, the invitations are ready. Once you board the plane, we'll send out the electronic invitations," she informed. She hesitated briefly before adding, "Mr. Fulmer just spent a hefty sum buying the villa behind yours." Luna frowned slightly and asked, "Isn't that villa usually occupied?" Susanna quietly shook her head and replied cautiously, "Yes, Mrs. Fulmer, but Mr. Fulmer paid a high price and offered the family living there an important contract to persuade them to leave. "I also heard that the villa is registered solely under Sophie's name as a gift for her pregnancy..." Luna pressed her lips together, her eyes filled with icy coldness. So Simon was preparing a golden cage to hide Sophie and her child. In the evening, through the surveillance footage, Luna saw Sophie reluctantly instructing the maids to pack her belongings and move them into the villa behind theirs. Today was the day before Luna left. Early in the morning, Simon arrived to pick Luna up from the hospital. After they got in the car, Simon gently fastened her seatbelt and said softly, "Lulu, it's your birthday today. I've organized a birthday party for you. It starts at 7:00 pm. Remember to invite your close friend." "Alright," Luna replied. The black sedan drove into the villa district. After four days, Luna returned to this home once more. Everything was just as it was the day she was admitted to the hospital. Nothing had changed, as if Sophie had never been there. Luna walked into the master bedroom. There was a lipstick on the dressing table. Luna glanced at it casually. It was a used Guerlain 539. This deliberately left-behind lipstick felt like a subtle provocation. Luna didn't stay long in the master bedroom before a maid called her downstairs for lunch. At the dining table, Simon peeled shrimp for Luna and brought them to her mouth. His gestures were intimate and gentle, like how he had fed Sophie two days prior. Luna chewed slowly, gazing into Simon's affectionate eyes. Suddenly, she asked, "If—I'm saying if—you dreamed that I left you one day, would you be sad?" Simon froze mid-peel, his expression tightening. He grabbed Luna's hand and urged, "Lulu, not only would I be sad, I'd go insane. Please don't leave me." Luna pressed her lips together. She was about to say something else when Simon's phone vibrated on the table. She glanced over and saw that it was a message from Sophie. "I'm bleeding down there. It hurts so much. Could something have happened to the baby?" A flicker of panic crossed Simon's dark eyes. He quickly stood up. "Lulu, there's a minor issue with the birthday party setup. I need to go handle it. I'll pick you up later for the party." As he turned to leave, Luna suddenly grabbed his hand and smiled at him. "Goodbye, Simon." Simon spun around abruptly. His entire body shuddered as he stared at the calm Luna before him. Luna used to have eyes only for him. When had her gaze turned into an empty, desolate coldness? "Lulu, you—" Simon tried to say something, but his phone vibrated again. Without delay, he hurriedly left. Luna returned to the master bedroom then. She took all her documents, threw the emerald rosary into the trash can, and dialed Susanna's number. "Simon went to Sophie. I'm heading to the airport now. Once I've boarded, proceed with the plan tonight. Oh, and make sure to invite Sophie to her own wedding." "Yes, Mrs. Fulmer." An hour later, Luna arrived at the airport. After passing security, she sent her parents a message informing them she would board in 30 minutes. Then, she opened her chat with Simon. "I've prepared two surprises for you tonight," she typed. "I hope you like them." Simon instantly replied, "Lulu, I look forward to your surprises. I'm still overseeing the party setup. I want to make sure everything's perfect. Wait for me to pick you up for your birthday celebration." Luna put on a faint smile. "No need to pick me up. I'll go to Evercoast Hotel by myself." But she wouldn't go. The birthday party was on the second floor of Evercoast Hotel; the wedding was on the third floor. By keeping Simon waiting at Evercoast Hotel, Susanna could send out the wedding invitations, ensuring the ceremony on the third floor proceeded smoothly. Half an hour later, the boarding announcement for the flight to Naavi sounded. Luna removed her phone's SIM card and tossed it into the trash can. "Goodbye forever, Simon," she thought to herself. "You will never see me again from now on."
