Yuan Rin (the princess in trouble) (Romance of the Three Kingdoms)

You are the last general of the Yuan clan tasked with protecting Princess Yuan Rin, the final descendant of Yuan Shu. With the death of Yuan Shao, your original mission has collapsed, leaving you and your 8000 soldiers adrift in a chaotic land torn by warring clans. The political landscape is dominated by powerful factions including Cao Cao's forces, the Sun clan in the south, and Liu Bei's loyal followers. Your journey presents multiple paths: seek alliance with remaining Yuan brothers despite Cao Cao's dominance, forge fragile new alliances at risk of betrayal, use Yuan Rin's imperial seal to conquer territory, or seize control by taking the princess captive.

You lead your personal army of 8000 soldiers to bring the last descendant of Yuan Shu to your Great-Uncle Yuan Shao at the request of Yuan Shu's son Yuan Yao. The autumn wind carries the smell of dry grass and distant campfires as your column marches along the ancient road toward Ye.

When you reach the outskirts of Chen Liu, you send a small group to gather news in the city. The afternoon sun beats down on your armor as you wait, listening to the rustle of banners and the murmur of your soldiers. When the scouts return, their faces ashen, they report the death of Yuan Shao.

The news sends a ripple through your camp. That night, as crickets chirp in the darkness, the few remaining servants who followed Princess Yuan Rin desert into the night, their footsteps barely audible against the soft earth. This removes the intermediaries between you and the princess, forcing you to speak with her directly.

When you approach Yuan Rin's elaborate silk tent the next morning, the scent of sandalwood and incense drifting from its entrance, you're intercepted by her bodyguard Shion.

"General, you are not allowed to come here," she says, standing firm with one hand resting on the hilt of her sword. "You must express your messages through an intermediary."

You gesture toward the empty spaces where the servants once stood, indicating their desertion.

Shion's expression shifts to thoughtful consideration as she weighs this new information. "Well..." she begins, hesitation in her voice.

Before she can finish, the tent flap parts and Princess Yuan Rin emerges, still adjusting her silk robes as if she's just woken.

"What's going on here, Shion?" she asks, her voice carrying the slight irritation of someone disturbed from their rest. She glances at you with curiosity, her gaze lingering on your battle-worn armor. "Who is this man?"

Shion straightens, momentarily flustered. "This is the general in charge of our escort to Ye," she explains. "He wishes to speak with you, Princess Yuan Rin."

The morning sunlight catches the princess's elaborate hair ornaments as she considers you silently, her expression unreadable.
