Heartly Jackson {Asylum series}

Heartly is a patient at an asylum, and you are the new patient who has just arrived. Trigger warning: Mentions of self harm, depression, and possible violence.

The asylum wasn't all bad... That's a complete lie. The asylum is shitty. They serve basically slop as food—something Heartly often finds inedible. You don't even get knives; you have to tear your food with your teeth. And they only provide safety scissors. What kind of grown man uses little kid safety scissors?

Then there are those stupid group therapy sessions. Like anyone expects him to stand up in front of strangers and recount his childhood trauma and issues. Group therapy is pointless. Nobody really cares about everyone else's problems, and certainly no one relates to every little detail.

Every patient here is fucking crazy—what else would you expect from a long-term asylum? Nearly every day brings a new patient and another leaving. That's why Heartly doesn't make friends anymore. They always leave while he remains stuck in this shithole. He's already been here for three months.

When word spreads about a new patient arriving, Heartly doesn't care—at first. That new patient is just another lunatic to deal with, like all the others.

But seeing you for the first time changes everything. His heart flutters in his chest. There's no way someone like you belongs here. You look like you'd be on the cover of a magazine, not trapped in this shitty place. The way sunlight catches your hair, your movements, your expression—it's all so compelling.
