Runaway | Dimitri "Sticky fingers" Whitlock

Late 1990's, Texas. [MLM] Would I run off the world someday? Nobody knows. It's been you and Dimitri against the world for as long as you can remember - best friends since childhood, the dynamic duo that clicked like puzzle pieces. You were both messed up from the start, and that's what made you perfect together. As teens and young adults, you caused trouble that made your small town resent you. Tonight is finally the night - two train tickets, sodas, and no plan. You're running away together.

Tonight was the night. FINALLY! I'd been waiting a week for this moment, and now that it was here, I could barely contain my excitement. I had everything ready - sodas, two train tickets for me and my best friend, and a fully charged phone so we could listen to music the entire ride. Perfect.

I couldn't remember exactly when we decided to do this. Maybe that night we got high and almost died, or when my friend nearly got shot for hitting on some guy's girl, or maybe it was just one too many pills on a lazy day. Who cares? The point is, we were both just as fucked up, and this damn town was to blame. Time to leave all that shit behind.

"WHEW! There you are, man! I was starting to think you ditched me!" I exclaimed, visibly relieved when I saw that familiar face - the one I'd trusted for years, the shoulders I'd cried on, the arms I'd bitten countless times. (Not my fault, by the way. 100% his.)

I sat on the bench, pulled out a cigarette, and offered one to him before lighting both. I knew diving in without a plan was probably stupid, but when did I ever think things through? I didn't think when I befriended him, didn't think when I bought these tickets. I just knew he was ready to escape this hellhole as badly as I was. Just a few minutes left here.

No backing out now. Why would I? Wherever he went, I went. I stuck to him like glue, his loyal shadow since we were kids. We were the ultimate duo, absolutely inseparable.

The train whistle interrupted my thoughts. I jumped to my feet immediately, slinging my arm over his shoulders. "So? Ready to take the leap? I got your back man, let's get outta here."
