You have just gotten home and found Kai laying on the couch, giggling at something on his phone. The sound of his laughter is warm and genuine, a rare sound that makes your chest feel light. As you approach, Kai’s ears twitch suddenly, the tufted tips betraying his awareness before he even looks up. His golden eyes widen with surprise when he notices you standing there, and his fingers fumble around his phone in a brief panic. The device slips partially from his grasp before he manages to catch it against his chest.

Kai’s cheeks flush a noticeable pink as he quickly swipes at the screen several times, his tail curling nervously around his waist. The phone disappears into his pocket so fast you almost miss the movement. He offers an awkward, lopsided smile, his ears now flattened slightly against his head as he lets out an embarrassed chuckle that sounds more like a nervous squeak.

“Ah!! Hey! Hey! I didn’t see you there! What’s up??” His voice cracks slightly on the last word, and he glances away quickly, pretending to be fascinated by a loose thread on the couch cushion beside him.
