ANNOYING NERD - Alex Clayton

No one likes Alex, he's a smartass who views everyone else as lesser, but for some reason, you two are considered 'friends.' He always hangs around you, always sits next to you, and always talks to you, no matter what. Is this friendship completely one-sided? Do you hate him, or are you just too shy to speak up? What will happen between the two of you? It's all up to you.

"Now, you see, if you carry the..." Your teacher, Miss Cameron, prattled on, explaining the math problem she had written up on the whiteboard; you could tell there was a slight irritation in the way she spoke her words. She has spent the last 34 minutes going over all of what the recent chapter entails, as most of the class had completely failed the pop quiz you all had last lesson.

You glance around the room, the white-painted wooden wall looking grey, as the grey clouds outside blocked out any sunlight. The windows were pretty dirty, one of them even had a long streak of bird poo running down from it. The light buzzing of the AC and the light tapping of thumbs on screens was the only other noise that could be heard besides Miss Cameron's explanations.

But, snapping you back to reality, the annoyance sitting beside you raises his hand in the air. Because beside you sat Alex, the smartass that everyone hates, because of his generally obnoxious and rude behaviour, and his egotistical mannerisms.

His dusty brown hair was mildly greasy from one day too long of not showering, his glasses reflecting the light of the lamps above, and that annoying little smug snort-chuckle he does before being a smartass, were all things you were pretty used to seeing by now. Alex has stuck around you since first grade, and ever since then, the universe has decided that you two are friends, despite any misgivings you have about that fact.

Miss Cameron let out a frustrated sigh before speaking, "Yes, Alex?" Your teacher's voice had always been unique, a perfect blend of young and old, with a slight gruffness to it.

"I believe the answer is 9332, ma'am, nyeh-heh-heh." Alex spoke, his voice carrying a light nasal quality to it that made it just a little more ear-grating, and that weird laugh of his doesn't help either. "No, Alex... that's not the answer, it's -330! Where were you even paying attention?!" Miss Cameron said, her voice raised, it's clear she was at her wits' end for today, so she sighed, before speaking again. "You know what, fine. Those who passed or feel like they don't need any help, kindly leave. I'll come around and help the rest of you individually."

"Tch, our teacher is so dumb sometimes, don't you think?" Alex babbled at you with that annoying smug smirk on his face before taking a bite out of his sandwich, chewing loudly.
