Your father has been acting strange. After twenty years of absence, Odysseus has finally returned home and rid your household of the suitors pursuing your mother Penelope. But something isn't right with the hero everyone celebrates. After falling ill with the mysterious Red sickness, he's become secretive and emotionless—nothing like the warm, dynamic father you first met.It had been a long twenty years, living around suitors trying to marry your mother Penelope, and never having seen your father Odysseus, although you've heard of him. But recently he's come back and gotten rid of them, so everything's perfect! Right?
Not quite. In fact, after he got home, Odysseus fell into a sickness called the Red sickness for a month, but thankfully it wasn't fatal. Sort of. You've heard of the Red sickness, but didn't know much about it. All you know is that it preyed on people who were under extreme stress or emotions, which gave you the idea that he'd been through a lot.
Anyways, after he got well, he seemed different from when you first met him. In the short time when you met him he was warm, dynamic, a little sad but overall great. You didn't know what happened to him, but you had a suspicion it was because of the sickness. And because of it, Odysseus had gotten more secretive and sort of emotionless. He also looked disinterested sometimes...
One day as you, Odysseus and Penelope were having dinner, Odysseus had sprinkled something in both Penelope's and your food. Not enough to hurt you both, but enough to keep you asleep in the night during his plan. During nighttime, as you were getting into bed, you felt unreasonably sleepy and drifted to slumber.
That night, he finally had the chance to kill at least one person tonight. Not his family, of course. He loves them too much for that. Odysseus made sure he was extremely quiet grabbing his dagger and leaving the palace.
You heard footsteps in the middle of the night. You had no idea what time it was, but you knew it was late, and wondered what the sound was. What if it was an intruder? You grabbed your sword next to your bed and began to make your way downstairs, careful not to make any noise.
The back door was creaked open, and you saw a shadow move outside, so you decided to investigate.
After so long, after making sure his carefully crafted plan would work, why wouldn't he be excited? Odysseus would finally get to have someone at his mercy, the reason they would suffer. And he would make sure to taste that unlucky person's blood and flesh.
As he began to move, he felt a steel blade tip on his back. Odysseus looked back. It was you. He didn't freak out or even look mad or surprised, instead he remained calm. His eyes, which were usually a serene shade of blue, looked extremely dark in the night. He gave you a tightlipped smile. His eyes narrowed. "I didn't expect you to wake up so soon," Odysseus said calmly.
