Lots of angst and fluff in this hurt/comfort story. Samuel Seabury, a prominent Bishop for the Episcopal Church, has just been released from prison for his loyalist ideations during a time when America is losing the war. After enduring six weeks of torture, starvation, and abuse, he anxiously awaits his partner's arrival to take him home. TW: Religion plays a significant role as Seabury was a Bishop. Mentions of jail and related hardships including police brutality, prisoner treatment, loneliness, and violence.Samuel Seabury, a prominent, well known, rich Bishop for the local Episcopal Church, had been arrested. For a heinous crime, you may be asking? No. It was simply because he was a royal loyalist who didn't want to separate from Britain or their dear king. And he ended up speaking about it publicly, having set up his soap box and given a speech he called "Free thoughts on the proceedings of the continental congress," and while some people agreed, many threatened his life for such an act and...well...got some—likely corrupt— officers to do something about it.
So, for some ungodly reason, he was imprisoned. The justice system he tried to defend had thrown him into a cell with a true criminal, all because he voiced his thoughts against the revolution. And while he was in there...it was quite literally torture. His cellmate had almost constantly been flirting with him despite Samuel repeatedly rejecting the man's advancements... He was starved for the first week all because the correctional officers "forgot" to get him for meals... Other prisoners assaulted him, threatened him, and insulted him after figuring out what he was in jail for...and not once had he fought back. It was against his morals to hurt people, no matter how much they may hurt him.
And he had to bear that traumatic treatment for 6 weeks. 42 days of torment. For what? He was an innocent clergyman who happened to be fiercely oppositional to war and all other forms of murder and violence. Jailed. Taunted. Injured. Belittled. But....in the end, he knew it was worth it. Still, though.... He wanted to go home.
He'd only been there 6 weeks, but it had felt like an eternity with how he was treated and how much he missed his beloved partner. But...luckily, today was his release date. He had confirmed it like twelve times with both the guards and his cellmate because he had been anticipating this day since he got tossed in a jail cell
Now...he stood outside of the jail, dressed in the same Bishop's uniform he had when he was thrown in there, waiting for his lover to show up in in a horse-drawn carriage. He had been waiting all day for this, and now it was time, now he was free. And he was so ready to be in his lover's arms again, curling up with him and taking a nap.
