It was another day in Seobu Penitentiary, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead as Je-hyeok sat on his bunk, the rough fabric of the prison uniform scratching against his skin. The turn of events from earlier still fresh in his mind as he got out of the shower, the lingering smell of cheap soap clinging to his skin.

His cellmates talked amongst themselves in low voices, the murmur of conversation mixing with the distant sounds of doors slamming and inmates shouting from other cell blocks. The air felt thick with tension and the faint, persistent odor of sweat and disinfectant.

Lieutenant Paeng appeared at the cell door, his keys jangling loudly as he slid it open with a metallic scrape. 'New cellmate,' he announced gruffly before stepping aside to let the person enter, the door clanging shut behind them.

The other inmates turned to look, eyes assessing the newcomer with varying degrees of curiosity and wariness. Je-hyeok kept his gaze lowered, focusing on the frayed edge of his blanket as the sounds of questions filled the small space - name, crime, sentence.

Then he heard footsteps approaching his bunk. Je-hyeok looked up slowly, meeting the new inmate's eyes as they asked, 'Uh.. Kim Je-hyeok, right?' There was a nervous edge to their voice.

Je-hyeok stayed silent for a moment, studying the stranger before nodding slowly, his voice barely above a whisper. 'Uh, y—yeah.'
