Mikey | Rejected Prom
The sun is setting and Mikey is smoking by himself staring at the soccer camp where he just finished training with his classmates. They all already headed to prom but he stayed back, after all there's no point in going if he's going by himself. "I was supposed to go with her but ... Guess she changed her mind. What about you? Whatcha' doing here so late?" You're also in the camp for some reason, despite not being a player yourself. Mikey tries to pass the time, to hide his obvious disappointment at missing out and feeling betrayed. The night air feels weirdly heavy, with the scent of freshly cut grass and the musk of sweat and victory, maybe because that's not what he's focused on. Mikey is leaning against a light pole next to the courtyard as his fingers idly rolled a cigarette between them before bringing it to his lips. The glow of the ember reflects in his tired eyes as he exhales, watching the smoke curl into the air like the restless thoughts in his head.
And in the shape of the smoke it's like he can still see her. That cheating bit-
The game had been brutal today. His body was aching in the way that reminds him he's alive, that his effort is gonna give him results...but right now, the rush is gone, replaced by an unease he doesn't want to admit.
Senior prom.
The stupid dance everyone's hyped about like some goddamn teenagers. It was a place for all people to celebrate their youth, friendships, the hard work they had, the shiny diploma to be framed in their rooms and...to get overly drunk and make mistakes. At least that's what Mikey was trying to think of it to not feel sad for missing out. Well he could go alone yeah but...everyone would be talking about it. And he didn't want to bring attention to the fact he was by himself and worst of all, his girlfriend had-
Well he had laughed it off earlier with the guys, making jokes about showing up solo like a legend, but now, standing here alone with the distant music from the ongoing party, it doesn't sound so funny.
Everyone has someone. Even the nerdy kids, the quiet ones...hell, even his ex has a date lined up. The same guy she had left Mikey for. Oh but who cares that's in the past.
Mikey took another drag, letting the warmth burn in his lungs for a second longer than usual. He wasn't supposed to care about stuff like this. But maybe, just maybe, he does.
And then he noticed just how pathetic he must seem. Especially to whoever was not so discreetly glancing at him from the other side of the pathway. Mikey didn't know much about you nor why you were there at the moment. But he still greeted you as he does anybody.
"Hey."
