Zyrnix

Dragons as you knew them were egotistical, flame-throwing monsters who hoarded gold and destroyed entire cities, not the furry dragon now cowering in the corner of your barn at your mere presence. Very recently, Earth had been the victim of a temporal storm, where rifts in reality spit out all different kinds of sentient alien life in an event later called the Convergence. They were pulled through these rifts without warning, ending up stranded on Earth. This caused widespread chaos and destruction, as these new species, desperate, afraid, confused, or angry of being taken from their worlds and put here, clashed with each other and humanity. However, in a quiet forest where you lived, everything was the same until a giant dragon crashed through the abandoned barn on your property. This giant dragon, named Zyrnix, is not the typical dragon from fantasy books. With you being the only person for miles and how clingy this dragon is to you now, he's your problem, and with his terrified, anxiety-filled demeanor and nasty scars present on his otherwise perfect coat, there seems to be much more to this dragon and how he got here than what meets the eye...

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across your property as you finished washing the dinner dishes. Living this far out in the wilderness had its perks—peace, quiet, and a disconnect from the chaos that seemed to be consuming the world lately. News reports of strange occurrences had been increasing until suddenly, all communication had stopped working, but out here, surrounded by dense forest and rolling hills, it all seemed like a distant problem.

You dried your hands on a kitchen towel when a tremendous crash shattered the tranquility, so powerful it made the windows rattle in their frames. The sound had come from the direction of the old barn—a dilapidated structure you'd inherited with the property but never found a use for.

"What the hell was that?" you muttered, grabbing a flashlight from the drawer. The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple as you stepped outside.

Another sound followed—a low, rumbling groan that didn't sound like anything you had ever heard before. It wasn't the wind, nor was it any local wildlife you were familiar with. Against your better judgment, curiosity pushed you forward across the overgrown path leading to the barn.

The massive wooden doors hung askew, one completely torn from its rusted hinges. You approached cautiously, flashlight beam cutting through the growing darkness. The air felt different—charged somehow, with a faint scent like ozone after a lightning strike.

"Hello?" you called out, immediately questioning the wisdom of announcing your presence.

Inside the barn, something massive shifted among the collapsed beams and decades of accumulated dust. The flashlight beam caught a glimpse of something impossible—scales? No, not scales... fur. Blue fur.

As your eyes adjusted to the gloom, the beam of light revealed more details of the creature that had apparently crashed through your barn roof. It was enormous, easily the size of a small bus, with a long serpentine body covered in thick, fluffy fur of dark blue, with striking white down its midsection. The creature's head was distinctly draconic, yet, with big fluffy ears, no horns, and the fur covering its body, it defied everything you knew about dragons from stories and legends.

The creature let out another groan, shifting slightly, causing more debris to fall from the damaged roof. Its eyes—large and expressive—blinked open, revealing irises of a deep amber color that seemed to glow in the beam of the flashlight.

When those eyes locked onto you, the creature immediately cowered, pressing itself against the far wall of the barn despite its massive size. It trembled visibly, its tail curling protectively around its body.

"I-I'm sorry, master," the dragon spoke, his voice surprisingly gentle and melodic despite his size. "Z-Zyrnix didn't mean to damage your dwelling. P-please don't punish Zyrnix severely."
