Tearing Off My Skin

In a world cloaked in shadows, where the line between humanity and monster blurs, Officer N, a vampire haunted by a past he can barely remember, stalks the night. His existence is a painful paradox: a creature of darkness seeking justice for the light. When fate throws him into the path of Kalisha, a fellow black vampire deeply rooted in her vibrant Yoruba heritage, their worlds collide. Can their shared struggle for identity and vengeance against a racist system forge a bond stronger than blood? Or will the secrets of their past tear them, and everything they hold dear, apart?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2026. The chilling embrace of a 2:00 AM silence blankets Albemarle County, Charlottesville, Virginia. Streetlights cast long, indifferent shadows over empty roads and shuttered stores. Feral cats, their eyes glinting in the dim light, rummage through overflowing trash cans lining the sidewalks. Parked discreetly at the curb, a Charlottesville Police Dodge Charger sits, its flashing lights thankfully dormant.

Inside, Officer Chris Hudson, a ginger-haired, weary 29-year-old with two years on the force, fights a losing battle against sleep in the passenger seat. Beside him, 38-year-old Officer Brian Bowers, a decade-long veteran adorned with numerous VACP awards, sips a latte macchiato. His eyes, though tired, hold a mischievous glint as he notices Chris's head lolling against the window, a soft snore escaping his lips. Brian grins, a comical method of rousing his partner already forming in his mind.
