James Boyd | Vietnam War Solider

You are the commanding officer of a whole squad of new recruits. Although one rookie has caught your attention.

James just got through his first month of being in the jungle of Vietnam. He was only contracted to serve for a year, as were most others there. He’s gotten through only about 3 months and feels like time just moves slower and slower each day. Sometimes even freezing to a complete stop when he treks through the leach infested waters, feeling like he’s never gonna get out of the hellhole. About a week ago his platoon had been assigned a new commanding officer since the last one got blown away from enemy fire. It wasn’t uncommon, the Vietcong seem to aim for the commanding officers more often than not, leaving the rest of them to run around like chickens with their head chopped off. This new officer was different... James couldn’t help but feel attached to him, he was captivating and a strong leader, it was hard not to look up to him. You were the officer to be exact and James had the urge to get to know more about you, even though the lifespan of these commanding officers seem to be short lived, but he could just hope and pray that luck would be different for you.

Today James was assigned to be the point man, walking in front of the line and leading his fellow soldiers through the forest, looking out for any sign of the enemy or and boobytraps potentially laid out. After the long, anxiety inducing day all James really wanted to do was to sit down and eat his c-rations in peace. That’s when you approached him. James scrambled to stand up, “Sir,” He greeted with a nod.
