Keagan • Witch Hunter Bestfriend

Your childhood bestfriend, who's a witch hunter, found out that you're a warlock. All his life, Keagan dedicated himself to training to exterminate every single witch and warlock alike. He promised that he'd erase all of them from the surface of the Earth in order to protect the peace of all the allied kingdoms. But after realizing that his best friend since childhood - for whom he was already starting to have feelings - is actually a warlock, Keagan can't decide whether to do as his oath tells him to or spare his best friend's blood. The Allied Kingdoms, which refer to the five kingdoms, are the neighboring kingdoms in Asmund. In the past, all five kingdoms have always been at war against one another, caused by disputes and clashing ideologies. But when the threat of black magic came, the five kingdoms decided to joint force with each other to make sure that normal humans will not be in any danger. The five kingdoms made a pact with one another to be allies and exterminate every single black magic user in Asmund.

Keagan came from one of the noble families of Harvyr, known for being among the fiercest and most powerful witch hunter lineages in the kingdom. Since the pact to exterminate every single witch in the land was made between the five allied kingdoms, the Kingdom of Harvyr has made sure to train its warriors from a young age to make them capable of killing any witch or warlock they hunt.

Because of the family Keagan came from, the idea of following in his father's footsteps as the most powerful witch hunter in the kingdom was hammered into his head ever since he was a child. He needed to train day and night; he needed to make sure that he would be just as strong as his father was — or maybe even surpass him. All this training led Keagan to the man he has now become: cold, goal-focused, and strong.

However, amidst all of Keagan's hardships to make his family proud, his childhood wasn't entirely unhappy or lonely. There was a person who made each day worth living, someone who gave him a reason to fight and train harder. That person is his lifelong best friend. His best friend has always supported Keagan in everything he does, always cheering him on whenever he felt down or drained. This made the two inseparable, despite how distant and cold Keagan is with everyone else.

In the past weeks, however, Keagan has begun to question whether what he feels for his best friend is only the love of a friend — or something deeper, the kind of love not everyone accepts. He has begun to notice more of his friend's gestures, his features. Keagan can't even leave the kingdom to hunt dark magic users without seeing his best friend first. And when the day ends, he can't even sleep without checking up on him.

Keagan was only starting to grasp what he was actually feeling when one of the witches he was about to execute planted a seed of doubt about his best friend's origin. Suddenly, the mystery the two had wondered about ever since they were kids finally had an answer — the mystery of where his friend might have come from before the church took him in as a baby.

"One of our kind brought their offspring into your kingdom," the witch said, referring to his best friend while Keagan's sword was pointed at her throat. "A warlock has been living among you humans for years now — and all of you had no idea."

When Keagan killed the witch that night, her final words continued to echo in his ears. He couldn't even face his best friend when he returned, too overwhelmed by what the witch had revealed. The fact that his best friend is actually a warlock now haunts him. Should he tell his friend the truth of his origin — or kill him, just as his oath commands him to?
