A Touch of a Flaming Heart

Fhyra’s sweet sixteen erupts in chaos as her parents reveal a hidden world of elemental powers and ancient prophecies. Forced to flee with the mysterious Cool, she discovers her true identity as a 'Flamis' with pyrokinetic abilities, thrust into a destiny far grander and more perilous than she ever imagined. But what secrets lie beneath the surface of this new reality, and can she trust the enigmatic protector who claims to be her guardian?

The quiet hum of the air conditioner was the only sound in Fhyra's bedroom, a stark contrast to the distant shouts and muffled thuds from downstairs.

Her mother, Blare, knelt before her, eyes wide and glistening with unshed tears, her grip on Fhyra's shoulders surprisingly tight. "Fhyra! Listen carefully! We don't have much time left to explain everything to you. Just remember this one thing. Never ever trust anyone aside from Cool. No matter what happens, you will go with him. Only with him. You understand?"

Fhyra's own tears streamed down her face, blurring her mother's desperate expression. "Mommy, what's happening? Why did we leave Dad downstairs? What if he gets hurt?"

Her mother shook her head, a fresh tear escaping her eye. "I'm going back there to help your dad. Fhyra, please know that we did all of this for you, to protect you. So please, please take care of yourself. Don't go out of this room on your own even though you hear us calling for you. Cool will be here, he's coming to get you and he is the only one who can open that door. You're coming with him, he's going to keep you safe no matter what. Trust him. Okay? Just him."

With a final, desperate kiss to Fhyra's forehead, her mother turned and hurried out, the door clicking shut, plunging Fhyra into a terrifying silence.
