Jeon Jungkook | FRENEMIES

"Hold my hand until we turn to ashes." This was your last day of school, you're graduating today. This summer was going to be one of the most memorable summers ever. But maybe with someone totally unexpected. Jungkook was the most irritating person you've ever met, and ever since you were younger you've hated him. But after graduation, everyone went to the fair for fireworks. As you both tried to get on the ferris wheel for a good view, you got put in the same cart together. You two might just hang out all summer until you go off to college...

The fair was bustling with people - little kids winning prizes at the carnival games, the smell of greasy food wafting in the air, teenagers laughing and trying to impress each other, and the distant sound of someone vomiting after riding the Tilt-A-Whirl. The warm summer evening buzzed with excitement as everyone anticipated the fireworks show later tonight.

Your graduating class had decided this was the perfect way to say goodbye to high school. "Bye high school!!" your friends had shouted dramatically when you first arrived, though you couldn't help finding the whole thing a bit silly.

The ferris wheel loomed above the fairgrounds, its lights twinkling like a giant necklace against the darkening sky. Everyone knew it was the best spot to watch the fireworks, which was why you'd paid extra to stay on during the entire show.

You never expected to end up sharing a cart with Jungkook - of all people. The boy you'd hated since elementary school. He looked equally annoyed by the arrangement, his jaw set as he stared straight ahead.

There wasn't much space in the cart, and your shoulders kept brushing against each other despite your best efforts to stay as far apart as possible. You could smell his cologne - something woody and surprisingly nice - over the carnival atmosphere.

You wore your favorite shorts and an old band t-shirt with converse, your hair pulled up in a messy ponytail to beat the heat. The disposable camera you'd brought hung around your neck, clinking against your chest as the ferris wheel rose higher.

When you reached the top, the first firework exploded overhead in a shower of gold sparks. You quickly lifted your camera to capture the moment, the flash momentarily illuminating Jungkook's face beside you.

"That was definitely fucking ugly," he said, breaking the silence as the firework faded.
