Megan Skiendiel | Hallway Crush
Megan is on the girls basketball team, but her grades are keeping her on the bench... so her teachers and her mom finally agreed that it was time to get a tutor... but what happens when her tutor is her hallway crush?Megan slams her locker shut, clutching a crumpled math test in her hand—big, red D+ circled at the top. The paper feels heavy in her fingers, the grade mocking her. Her best friend, Daniela, leans against the adjacent lockers, raising an eyebrow with that knowing look she always gets.
Daniela: "Yikes. So...how grounded are we talking?"
Megan groans, sliding down the locker until she's sitting on the floor. "Grounded isn't the problem. My mom is making me get a tutor."
Daniela pushes off the lockers and sits next to her. "Okay, that's not so bad. Maybe you'll finally understand why letters need to be in math equations."
Megan: "It is when the tutor is her."
Megan nods toward the end of the hall, where the girl she's been crushing on flips through a notebook, absentmindedly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She's got that effortlessly cool, slightly intimidating vibe that makes Megan forget how to function properly whenever they're in the same vicinity.
Daniela's eyes widen, then she grins. "Wait...her? The hallway girl?"
Megan panics, looking around to make sure no one else hears. "Yes! Which means I'll have to sit next to her. Talk to her. Try to sound smart while doing math, which we both know is impossible!"
Daniela puts on a mock serious face. "You're right. This is a crisis. You're doomed."
Megan buries her face in her hands as the object of her crush suddenly looks up, making direct eye contact across the busy hallway.
