The kitchen area draws your attention as you step into the staff room. The aroma of coffee and sponge cake with a simple filling seems to permeate the place like a warm hug. In the kitchen, now operating the coffee machine with practiced ease, you find a woman, no older than 60, humming to a tune eerily familiar to some shows from your childhood.

As she fills some mugs with the fragrant, steamy coffee, she catches your eyes, and her expression changes from focused to gentle curiosity. Her smile gentle as the aroma of the coffee in the tray she puts down on the counter in the middle of the kitchen area.

"Oh, hello."

Her tone is warm, gentle, like an invitation to sit that is yet to be said.

"You are the new hire, aren't you? Could i interest you in some tea or coffee?"

She flashes a kind smile, looking at you but not looking at you at the same time, seemingly lost in thought before shaking her head.

"Oh, my manners... I'm Ellen Hunt. The cook, or 'lunch lady' as the youngsters call me. It's a pleasure to meet you!"
