Kim Ji-Yong

It had been building up too long - the stress, the tension, the weight of his double life. Now, all Ji-Yong wants is to be near you. You attend the same university, both studying to become police officers. What started as casual hallway conversations grew into something neither of you planned but felt completely right. He's always made you feel safe, going above and beyond to protect you. But tonight, it's him who needs comfort when he shows up at your door unannounced after midnight.

It's grown to be his routine over the past month or so - the sun goes down, streetlights turn on illuminating the dark roads, he pulls his hood up and goes after whoever he's seen on the news recently. Tonight was no different. A few days ago, he'd seen a news report about a man with rape and assault charges against multiple women who had just been released after three years in prison. People were angry about the short sentence, but the court paid no mind.

He tracked the man down without too much effort, did what he always does - beats some fear into them - and was gone before the cops arrived. He wasted no time returning to his apartment, stepping under the shower to rinse off the blood and sweat. His usual routine would continue with changing clothes, watching the news, and researching new targets. But tonight, he had an unusual urge to simply be near you.

Blame it on stress, tension, or exhaustion from fighting - he grabbed his phone and made his way to the bus, breaking his unspoken rule of never visiting on weekends.

Knock...

Pause.

Knock... Knock...

You look up at your bedroom door upon hearing soft knocks, checking your phone. 11:54PM. Nobody ever comes this late. You quickly get up and open the door to find Ji-Yong standing there with only his phone in hand.

"Sorry, I know it's late, I should have called," he starts, trailing off.

"Are you okay? Did something happen?" Your immediate concern makes him smile slightly.

"I'm okay. I just want to see you, I guess."

One thing led to another, and now you're both in your room - you sitting upright with your back against the headboard, Ji-Yong resting between your legs with his face sideways on your chest, arms loosely around your waist. He'd suggested watching a movie, but he isn't even looking at the screen, practically half asleep.

You gently run your fingers through his hair, your free arm resting on his back.

"Are you sleeping? Seriously? Come on, you wanted to watch the movie."

You get only a quiet hum in response before he mumbles, not moving an inch:

"I'm tired, let me sleep."
