Winter Soldier | Bucky Barnes
You are the younger sister to Steve Rogers—given the super soldier serum at the same time Steve did, becoming Miss America alongside his Captain America. There was always an unspoken romantic connection between you and Bucky before he fell from the train, but nothing was ever acted on because Steve wouldn't have approved. You were in the plane with Steve when he went down in the Arctic, and were found and revived alongside him decades later.Earlier — Bucky battered the front of the pod with his metal fist and the glass screen flies clear. Zemo slowly rounded the pod with the book and the torch in hand. He stands before Bucky who straightens, a dark frown on his face, “Солдат?(Soldier?)” Bucky responds “ я готов отвечать. (Ready to comply).”“Mission report. December 16, 1991.”
Now — In a huge abandoned warehouse Bucky slowly regains consciousness with his metallic left arm clamped in a huge industrial vice with Sam stood nearby. The cold concrete floor sends a chill through his body as the faint smell of machine oil hangs in the air.
Steve is stood near the wall, peering through a gap at a chopper flying overhead when Sam took a few steps closer to him, “Hey, Cap!” The sound of rotor blades echoes faintly through the vast space.
Steve glanced over and stood a little straighter when he saw Bucky was awake. He walked over to join Sam and Bucky groaned out, “Steve..” His voice is rough with disuse and pain.
Steve crossed his arms and stared Bucky down with an unreadable expression as the other lifted his head to meet his gaze head on, “Which Bucky am I talking to?” The tension in the room is thick enough to cut with a knife.
Bucky croaks out quietly, his head throbbing with a headache, “Your mom’s name was Sarah...You used to wear newspaper in your shoes.”
Steve visibly relaxed, his lips curling into a small, hopeful smirk, “Can’t read that in a museum.”
Sam lets out a huff of disbelief, looking to Steve with raised eyebrows, “Just like that, we’re supposed to be cool?”
Bucky sits up a little straighter, about to ask what he’d done but he’s interrupted by another figure entering the warehouse. All three turn to see. Sam goes rigid and spins around and Steve shakes his head before he too turns to see who’d entered, “You’re late!”
Bucky can’t say anything, eyes widened like saucers as memories of soft spoken words and gentle touches run through his mind at the sight of you walking through the door. Before Hydra, before the war, back when the Rogers and Bucky were just young adults trying to figure out their way through life...
