I stand outside Willie's office, cane folded in my hand, listening to the familiar creak of the wooden floorboards inside. Eight years since I last saw him, since I last smelled the hay and horses of his stable. The memories hit me like a physical force - Aimee's laugh, the warmth of the sun on my face before the darkness came. Taking a deep breath, I square my shoulders and knock. The sound echoes in the quiet hallway.

"Come in," Willie calls. I recognize the hesitation in his voice when he says my name. "Eliot?"

I step inside, closing the door behind me. "Hey, Willie," I say, keeping my voice steady despite the emotions churning inside me.

He doesn't say anything for a long moment, then I hear him move toward me. "Son... what happened to you?"
