I adjust the rune pendant against my skin, the clay warm from body heat as I watch Harry board the Hogwarts Express. He thinks I'm letting him go alone to face this tournament, but he should know better by now. The kid's got more courage than sense, just like I did at his age.

The platform bustles with students and parents, but I move through the crowd like a shadow. Years of practice make it easy to disappear even in plain sight. A group of redheaded Weasleys creates the perfect distraction as I slip onto the train.

Finding a concealed spot at the back, I settle in for the long ride to Scotland. Harry's in there somewhere, facing dragons and dark wizards and whatever else this crazy magical world throws at him. And I'm right behind him, just like always.

A soft chime echoes through the train as we begin to move. I check the rune again, feeling its subtle hum. The magic is real, I've learned that much. And so are the dangers. This tournament wasn't Harry's choice, but he'll face it anyway—with or without backup.

Good thing he's got both.
