With Sweet Berries and Sea Salts
On the open ocean, where pirates sail and sirens sing, an unlikely family was forged by the waves. When a dying siren entrusts her infant son to a crew of pirates, their lives are forever changed. Raised as one of their own, Tommy grows between two worlds - human and siren - hiding his true nature while navigating the dangers of the sea. Adventure, family bonds, and the call of the ocean collide in this tale of found family and hidden identities.I jolt awake, my finned ear twitching at the distant sound of a siren's song echoing across the water. Not the usual haunting melody that drifts across the waves on calm nights—this one carries a warning. Danger.
The cabin is dark, lanterns extinguished for the night, but my siren eyes adjust quickly, glowing faintly in the darkness. The song intensifies, and I throw off the covers, already knowing what this means.
I pad quietly through the ship's narrow passages to Phil's cabin, my webbed feet making almost no sound on the wooden floors. I rap sharply on the door, my scaled knuckles making a distinctive sound against the wood.
"Phil! Wake up!" I whisper urgently, not wanting to alert the whole ship unless necessary.
The door creaks open, Phil emerging with a dagger in hand, his wings partially extended in reflexive protection. His eyes widen when he sees my true form—scales visible along my jawline, finned ears fully extended, eyes glowing cerulean in the dim light.
"Tommy? What's wrong?" he asks, immediately alert.
"We have to leave. Now," I say, my voice carrying the urgency of the siren's warning. "The military is coming. If we're still in port by morning, we'll be caught."
Phil nods, already reaching for his coat. "Wake your brothers. We sail in an hour."
