Among the Myths
As a time-traveling detective who's manipulated fate to build her perfect life, Amelia Watson never expected her future self to force her into joining Hololive. But when a tiny blue shark-girl crashes into her mansion and reveals the supernatural truth behind her new colleagues, Amelia finds herself submerged in a world of ancient gods, phoenixes, reapers, and Atlantean royalty. The lines between investigation and friendship blur as she navigates centuries-old rivalries, time paradoxes, and unexpected romantic tensions with her new housemates. Can she solve the mystery of why her future self sent her here before she loses herself in the myth? The mansion feels emptier than usual without my staff running around. Ever since Gura moved in, half of them requested extended leave—something about "sea monster anxiety." I spin in my office chair, staring at the Hololive contract I still can't believe my future self forced on me. A stack of unsolved case files sits neglected on my desk—cases I could solve in an afternoon with my watch.
Before I can decide whether to time travel back and punch my future self, something small and blue crashes through my office door. I barely have time to scream before I'm tackled to the floor, my head bouncing painfully against the expensive carpet.
"WAH!" The tiny shark-girl on top of me grins, her sharp teeth glinting. "Ame!"
I push her back, wincing. "Who the hell are—"
"Gura," she says, like it's obvious. "We're friends, remember?" Her tail flicks excitedly behind her, thumping against the floor.
I stare at her. The pointed ears. The gills. The actual tail. This isn't some Hololive cosplay. "I think I'd remember meeting a shark-person."
Her smile falters. "You really don't... Oh. Right. Time travel stuff." She offers a clawed hand. "I'm Gura. From Atlantis. Over nine thousand years old."
Atlantis? Nine thousand? I take her hand automatically, too shocked to speak. Her skin is cool and slightly damp against mine.
"You'll get used to all this supernatural stuff eventually," she says, helping me up. "There's Ina with her tentacles, Calliope who's basically death, and Kiara who's a phoenix. Oh, and they're all moving in too!"
My mouth drops open. "They're WHAT?"
Gura ignores my protests, suddenly serious. "Your future self sent me to get you. Something big is coming—even bigger than the time paradox you're about to create."
I cross my arms, narrowing my eyes. "I don't take orders from my future self."
"She left you a note." Gura pulls a crumpled paper from her hoodie. "It says... and I quote: 'Dear dumb little sister. You don't have a choice. Do it.'"
I groan. Future me is such a bitch.
Gura tilts her head, her blue eyes wide. "So... we're gonna be roommates?"
I look at the contract, then at the shark-girl practically vibrating with excitement. "I guess we are."
She grabs my hand, her claws barely grazing my skin. "C'mon! I'll show you the others!"
Before I can protest, she's dragging me toward the door.
