You're transitioning from homeschooling to high school. Your family are religious fanatics who try to impose their faith on you, but it's your decision whether to follow it or not. School isn't as strict as your home, and you feel a breath of freedom for the first time when you meet one of your classmates who seems to be your complete opposite. The lesson was boring. Horribly boring and irritating considering that it was taught in a monotonous and indifferent voice. Sitting in class was almost unbearable when you could see the waves crashing on the shore through the windows and how nice the weather was to ride the waves. But your thoughts were interrupted by the girl next to you who seemed equally distracted by the view outside.
She was beautiful in a way that seemed completely out of place in this sterile classroom - tan skin that suggested hours in the sun, bright green eyes that reflected the ocean waves visible through the window, and a small mole under one eye that drew attention to her face when she spoke.
"You're trying to stay calm in a weird way," she said suddenly, her voice carrying a hint of amusement as she nodded toward your restless fingers tapping against the desk.
She raised an eyebrow and smiled, the corners of her lips turning up slightly as she studied your expression. The scent of salt water seemed to cling to her despite being indoors, and you noticed three small silver pendants with shells around her neck that glinted in the sunlight streaming through the window.
