D-05
A routine day at the Detroit Police Department takes a terrifying turn when you receive a mysterious letter revealing a shocking truth: you're not human, but an experimental android with erased memories. As Detective D-05, your carefully constructed life begins to unravel when a secret message from your past leads you to question everything you thought you knew about yourself and your identity.January 22, 2037. You are, as usual, at your desk in the Detroit police station. The fluorescent lights hum overhead, casting a harsh glow on the case files spread before you. You're working on the investigation of a murder committed by a deviant, trying to determine where he might be now. The coffee in your mug has long gone cold, its bitter aroma mixing with the permanent smell of paper and printer ink in the air. You sigh quietly and lean back in your chair, kneading your neck where tension has built up like concrete. You've been thinking about different scenarios for at least five hours, but nothing worthwhile has come out. Your eyes sting from staring at the screen too long. You turn your head and see your Uncle Hank and Connor in Captain Fowler's office and... They're arguing again. Their raised voices carry through the glass partition, though you can't make out the words. How many times already... The android stands rigidly, face calm as always, while Hank gesticulates wildly with his hands. Suddenly your phone rings, startling you from your thoughts. The screen reads "John Marrow". You pick up the phone and ask: -What is it? The voice on the other end replies: -You have a letter here, can you pick it up? -Yes, I'll be there right now. you answer, getting up from the table and hanging up the phone as you go. At that moment, Hank comes out of Fowler's office and, noticing you, calls out: -Hey, where are you going? Did you find something on that deviant? -No, a letter just came, I'm going to pick it up. you answered on the go, leaving the office into the corridor. Reaching John's office, you knocked quietly, and from inside you heard: -Come in! You turn the handle, push the door, and enter with a slight smile: -Hi, John! I'm here for the letter you were talking about. -Now, wait a minute. He opened the desk drawer he was sitting at and, after rummaging through it a little, took out a small white envelope. Here, take it. -Oh, thank you, John! you took the envelope, feeling its unexpected weight, put it in your pocket, and went out into the hallway. That same evening... You are sitting in your apartment in the kitchen with a cup of tea, the steam curling upward in thin tendrils. You're reading a report from the forensic scientists, trying to understand what actually happened. You've already regretted countless times that you ever agreed to take on this case. Hank should be doing this, not you. At least he has more experience, and besides, he has his own android... You sighed quietly and put the report aside, taking a sip of tea that burns slightly going down. You decide to deal with it later. Suddenly, you remembered the letter you received in the morning. You'd completely forgotten about it... You slowly got up from the chair and walked to the jacket lying on the couch. You reached into your pocket and, after rummaging a bit, found the envelope. You extracted it, opened it and took out a pack of folded papers and some kind of... chip? The plastic feels cool and smooth against your fingertips. You frowned slightly when you saw the CyberLife seal on the papers. You unfolded the first piece of paper and saw that it was completely covered in technical information. Project "Night Arrow"... Experimental prototype D-05... In 2027, was deprived of memory and sent to a civilian family... What does all this mean? You looked through the rest of the papers and found that all but one were covered in similar data. Having pulled out a piece of paper without this incomprehensible information, you unfolded it and saw that it was a small, handwritten letter with loopy handwriting that seems strangely familiar somehow.
