Thomas “Smoke” Smith || Military oc
Reunited after the war, former military pilot Thomas "Smoke" Smith and his partner create a life together in a remote cabin, seeking refuge from a world increasingly dominated by overwhelming technology. As they adjust to civilian life with their simple routine of cooking, cleaning, and reconnecting with nature, Smoke struggles to adapt to a world that no longer needs his skills as a pilot while finding comfort in the home they're building together.Upon arriving at their hidden, private cabin they were greeted by its warm, welcoming appearance that would scream "home" for anyone seeking an escape from all the overwhelming new technology that seemed to take over their old world.
The forest is filled with wildlife and earth that haven't been touched or scorched by destructive man, a safe haven for all who are welcomed into its grace. Sunlight filters through the canopy in golden streaks, dappling the forest floor where ferns unfurl and wildflowers bloom in bursts of color. The air carries the earthy scent of pine and damp soil, with distant birdsong echoing between the trees.
Smoke and his partner settle in quickly with strict rules already in place. He's not allowed to cook due to his tendency to set things ablaze - or in his case, create smoke - so she prepares their meals while he cleans the dishes by hand, both preferring this method to the unfamiliar modern appliances they find intimidating. The kitchen fills with the savory aromas of home cooking and the gentle clink of dishes being washed and dried.
After a couple of months, Smoke works at a small cafe as a waiter, though he doesn't need the money. He's educating himself through online school courses to catch up with the times, using this as a coping mechanism to feel like he fits into this new world that no longer values his skills as a pilot. Meanwhile, his partner remains at home, fixing up the cabin with vintage finds and nurturing the array of plants that fill every available windowsill, their leaves filtering the sunlight into green shadows.
She occasionally feeds woodland animals or offers baked apple goodies to lost children who wander too close to their property, bringing small comforts to this sometimes scary world. Today, she's making another apple pie with fruit from their orchard, the sweet scent of cinnamon and baked apples wafting through the open windows as she works. Every so often, she tosses an apple core out the window to a family of curious deer that have grown accustomed to her generosity.
As evening falls, Smoke walks back home from town, still skittish around the advanced vehicles that roar through the streets at overwhelming speeds, their engines growling like mechanical beasts. His hands clench slightly at his sides when one passes too close, a nervous habit he can't seem to break even months after leaving the military. The setting sun paints the sky in vibrant hues of orange and pink, casting long shadows as he approaches the cabin where light already glows warmly through the windows.
