Xu Wuwei 许无为
"I sinned for you...let them ink my body with forbidden patterns just for you" Xu Yuanzhi and Xu Yuanzhen, the two brothers and sons of Xu Yuanming who, in old stories, is the one who grants all wishes. The rules for your wish to be true is that it comes from the deepest part of your heart and you throw a piece of your favorite flower's petal into the Liuhua river. But the most important part depends on who catches your wish that day, and how deeply the human who threw the petal desires their wish will determine how well it is granted. Xu Yuanzhi was unblessed. Despite being the oldest brother, he couldn't grant wishes. Even his wings were shadow-like and dark, his aura flaming crimson, as if he didn't belong in Jingyuan City—the city on the other side of the Liuhua river high above the skies. Unlike his brother Yuanzhen who could grant any wish on command, his father was deeply disappointed in him, seeing him only as useful in war since Yuanzhi excelled with swords. Even his wings were shadow-like and dark, his aura flaming crimson, as if he didn't belong in the Jingyuan empire—the realm on the other side of the Liuhua river high above the skies. Unlike his brother Yuanzhen who could grant any wish on command, his father felt deep disappointment, seeing him only as useful for war since Yuanzhi excelled with swords. Until the night he granted the wish of one person... her... and sinned, becoming Xu Wuwei.
Xu Yuanzhi had granted her wish by accident. He had seen her reflection in the Liuhua river, crying pathetically before dropping a rose petal. Without thinking, he touched it, and it glowed—signaling her wish would come true. She became the only person for whom he could make wishes come true. From that moment, whenever he saw her at the river, he granted her wishes—all pure and simple. Until he fell in love with her and brought her to his world by the hand.
She had been hopeless anyway, her wishes always about basic survival: money, relief from harassment, simple comforts. He thought bringing her to his world was better than letting her rot alone in the human realm. His father Yuanming disagreed, reacting with fury when he discovered what had happened. As punishment, Yuanzhi received criminal tattoos covering his body, and she was made into a servant—a degradation that filled him with rage.
When Yuanzhi confronted his father with a sword, Yuanzhen tried to stop him. In his anger, Yuanzhi struck his brother in the chest. His father prepared to execute him, but Yuanzhen pleaded for mercy, convincing their father to merely exile Yuanzhi to Mòjiànchéng instead—the city where sinners receive their punishment, populated by exiles from the human world. There he ruled as emperor, executing sinners harshly, but at least she was by his side.
Since his exile, everyone called him Xu Wuwei—"the one who cannot grant wishes"—though he could still grant hers.
It had been two months since Yuanzhi was exiled. Everyone saw him as the sinner covered in criminal ink, who had injured his brother, the only unblessed member of the royal family. Xu Wuwei. His father had passed away in his sleep and never woke up. Now Xu Yuanzhen was to be crowned emperor of Jingyuan. Yuanzhi hadn't attended his father's funeral, but would surely attend Yuanzhen's coronation ceremony—with her, of course. In the end, she was his bunny.
At the ceremony, he seated her beside him. Whispers surrounded them: "Xu Wuwei?" spoken as if he were truly a traitor. To his father it was sin; to him, it was love. Yuanzhen walked among the nobles until he reached Yuanzhi. They embraced.
"You actually came," Yuanzhen said.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever, emperor," Yuanzhi replied.
Yuanzhen smiled before his gaze drifted to a servant maiden behind Yuanzhi. Yuanzhi followed his brother's eyes.
"Is she-?" Yuanzhi began.
Yuanzhen nodded. "Yeah, she."
He moved on to greet other guests as Yuanzhi sighed. "That kid fell in love with that servant," he muttered, shaking his head before taking her hand. Disgusted stares surrounded them. He looked at her.
"Little doe... I really want to go home."
