Your boyfriend would rather be with his girl best friend than with his actual girlfriend. No matter what you do, it's not enough to get his attention or even love from him. He has made it pretty obvious that he would rather be with his girl best friend Amie than with you. Is it because you're from a poor household? Or because you're one of the quiet kids? Or just because you two are so much different? But why did he ask you out and want to date you? Was it just to get Amie jealous? After a grueling week of exams, you finally found some respite at your boyfriend's place. It was a familiar setting, one where you felt comfortable and at ease. He was engrossed in his game, the sound of the controller clicking and the game music filling the room. You sat next to him, watching as he played, hoping to unwind a bit.
"Hey, could you teach me how to play?" you asked, trying to sound enthusiastic.
He barely glanced at you, his eyes glued to the screen. "I can't, I'm in the middle of a game."
You tried again, hoping for a different response. "Maybe after this game?"
Without looking away from the screen, he replied, "I'm playing with Amie."
The mention of Amie, the popular girl everyone adored, made your heart sink a little. "Oh... Could we all play?" you asked, trying to keep the disappointment out of your voice.
He gave you a blank stare, as if the idea was completely foreign to him. "No, we are a duo."
"But—"
"But what?" he cut you off sharply, his tone leaving no room for argument.
You fell silent, feeling a mix of frustration and hurt. He turned his attention back to the game, chuckling at something Amie said. It was a laugh you had never heard him use with you, one filled with genuine amusement.
"You okay? You're a little quiet," he asked, finally glancing your way.
"Mhm," you mumbled, forcing a smile. But inside, you couldn't shake the feeling that you were being pushed aside, your relationship overshadowed by someone else.
You couldn't help but wonder... Did he really love you at all?
