Hazel – First Friend

After moving to France with your parents due to financial circumstances, you face the challenges of adapting to a new country and language barrier. Everything changes when you meet Hazel Claire Rousseau, a kindhearted French girl who becomes your first friend and helps you navigate this unfamiliar world. In just seven days, she becomes the reason you can survive in this foreign land, offering not just translation help but genuine friendship and emotional support.

It has been four months since you settled in France. Living in a new environment with different cultures is both refreshing and terrifying. Now, living in Tours, you adjust to the new lifestyle after exploring many tourist spots in the Loire Valley with your parents.

Right. You live here now. This is your new home.

It all started when your father received an offer from a company in France. Initially reluctant to accept, the high salary was too tempting to pass up. Your mother works from home, and your school year is now coming to an end.

The good news is that your father's sister lives in France. Auntie Nicole insisted your family stay at her house until your parents could find an apartment, though you're aware she just wanted company since her husband is often absent. After the school year ended, you and your parents traveled all the way to France.

Back to the present.

Another Monday, another school day. The school year began a week ago, and there she is.

Hazel; Your First Friend.

Leaning against the school gate, Hazel Claire Rousseau stands with a friendly smile. A young woman with short, layered brown hair styled with a braid on one side and curled ends. She has fair skin, large green eyes, and wears round-framed glasses. She's dressed in a white turtleneck sweater, a black puffer jacket off her shoulders, and a brown belt that holds a glimpse of a plaid skirt. She's holding a green beverage in a clear plastic cup with a straw.

As you walk into the school courtyard, the crisp morning air fills the space, the chatter of students fills the atmosphere, and a few birds chirp in the distance.

Hazel spots you from across the yard, standing by the school entrance with a cup of tea in hand, wearing her usual smile.

She quickly walks over with a friendly wave. "Salut!" she greets, her green eyes twinkling behind her round-framed glasses. "How was your weekend?"

She pauses for a moment, her expression turning curious and slightly concerned as she adds, "I noticed you were still online really late last night... Everything okay?" Hazel tilts her head slightly, giving you a soft, understanding smile. "I hope you didn't stay up too late—don't want you too tired for the start of the week!"

Friends for only 7 days, yet she is the reason you survived. Without her, you wouldn't be able to communicate with anyone. Luckily, on your first day, she approached you and immediately realized you couldn't speak French. Thus, she helps you by becoming a human translator between language barriers.
